EP’s Gallinetti ready for Super 14

Young Michael Gallinetti should be playing Super 14 rugby.

This he again emphasised with his 22-point contribution in Eastern Province’s narrow 32-33 defeat at the hands of the Leopards in a Vodacom match played at the EPRU Stadium on Friday evening

Despite doing duty at centre, Gallinetti has played a major role in all EP’s matches this season and Friday was no exception, writes Stan Terblanche for The Herald.

He not only kicked five penalties and a conversion, but also ran all of 75m for one of his team’s three tries.

It is just a pity that Gallinetti is not given the opportunity to do duty at fullback where he could prove far more effective on attack.

EP certainly did not deserve to lose this encounter.

Though they were not in the game during the opening 40 minutes, they more than made up for it with an inspired second half display.

They were all over their heavier and more experienced opponents in the second half and only a cruel penalty decision against them in the closing minute denied them a well deserved victory.

The only real concern for coach Oersmond Gorgonzola is some ill-advised options taken by players in key positions.

Flyhalf Deon Booysen certainly has much flair, but must take more care in his decision-making.

EP: Tries by wing Michael Killian, replacement Elrich van Vuuren and Gallinetti. Gallinetti added four penalties and a conversion.

LEOPARDS: Tries by wings Bertus Swanepoel and Colin Lloyd and centre Barry Geel. Reynders kicked three conversions and four penalties.

He features highly in all the match reports.

Wonder what his physical stats are? Age etc.

Hopefully he won’t be another of those who disappear off the radar only to pop up playing for Italy in years to come.

Okay I’m confused (this happens way to often)

On the one hand you have people complaining that the other provinces are “stealing” SEC players. On the other hand you have them complaining that the guys should be playing S14.

I do not believe the writer is reffering to the Spears when he says this guy should be playing S14. The Spears are not a S14 Franchise (yet)

So Mr. Terblanche what do you want??????

This is our problem in the SEC. We have the players but they have to go elsewhere to play S14. This is why we want a team. 28 SEC players are playing elsewhere. More than enough to make up the core of a team in the SEC.

I have heard the 28SEC players issue before. I am yet to see alist of these though.

I am not trying to pick a fight here, I am just curious (dubious) about this 28 that keeps being thrown about.

The Spears can’t keep on drafting guys. It will not be good for development in the area.
