In a RuggaWorld exclusive we are proud to announce that we will be broadcasting live updates of the game between the Namibian rugby team and the Spears live on RuggaWorld tonight.

The Namibian rugby union and the Southern Spears have invited RuggaWorld as VIP guests to attend the match.

Peter de Villiers and Ashley Johnson will be live with us tonight to answer some questions from the fans live and give their thoughts on the game.

We are also hoping to speak to the Namibian coach to find out what he thinks about the South African Franchise and also to find out how far he is in the vital build up to qualify for the World Cup in France next year.

Please join us later tonight for what promises to be a cracking match.

In other news, the following media statement was released jointly by SARU and the Spears earlier today. A SARU delegation is currently visiting the Spears to gather information to establish the readiness of the Eastern Cape Franchise for next year’s Super 14.

MEDIA STATEMENT BY SA RUGBY UNION AND SOUTHERN SPEARS

31 MARCH 2006

A delegation of the South African Rugby Union today met representatives of the Southern Spears to gather information on the state of the franchise’s readiness to participate in the Vodacom Super 14 in 2007.

The meeting addressed a number of issues including governance of the franchise, sponsorships and understanding of earlier agreements in the Southern Cape region.

Representatives of the Parliamentary Sports Portfolio Committee and the Nelson Mandela Metro ANC Sports Desk also attended the meeting as observers.

SA Rugby Union and Southern Spears expressed satisfaction with the progress of the meeting, as it brought the various stakeholders closer to understanding each other’s position on pertinent issues. The meeting was regarded as the first in a series of engagements that will help SA Rugby make an informed decision on the immediate future of the franchise.

The two parties have noted the media and public interest in the current process regarding the Southern Spears, and have committed to keep all stakeholders informed on developments.

The next stage is a presentation by the SA Rugby Union delegation to the Board of SA Rugby on April 18 and further engagement with relevant stakeholders.

The findings of the Saru delegation and a decision on the immediate future of the Southern Spears will be announced publicly once the process has been completed. No media or public statements will be made prior to that.

You were right about the press report though, not much in it.

This will be interesting. Hearing what is Peter’s version of possibly first playing in Curriecup before taking on Super 14, and if that is what he is actually asking for.

On ground of what facts do the Spears believe they are capable of competing, perhaps there is plenty we don’t know about the spears yet.

I can se something sneaky brewing here. Watch the team to be relegated land some big sponsor (or have some other reason) before the Spears decision, which will be the reason for the Spears not playing Super 14.

Question! Is it true that the Spears management wouldn’t mind forfeiting the Super 14 in 2007 for a place in the CC?

    Gents,

I can yet again confirm Peter de Villiers will be joining us.

Tell whoever you want that wants to ask him any questions. This might give some perspective to some out there.

Anyway, keep it short and sweet please because we will be limited for time.

    And please ask relevant questions.

NOTE: Don’t post them here! I will let you know on the official match thread when he will answer some Q’s.

Again veyr short ones because remember I have to type them!!!! :)

Thanks for your ongoing interest and support!

Your comments and questions are always thought provoking and will push South African rugby to new heights.

Your enthusiasm and fanaticism for rugby puts me in awe of you and your knowledge, although sometimes there is the usual daft comment, but always with the best of intentions.

    Catch you here later.

Yes, go Spears, keep playing like you have been the last few games and you will quickly eliminate any concerns people might have with your participation in the Super 14 next year. I especially want to see you thump the Farce.
