SA Rugby President Oregan Hoskins has been elected to the Executive Committee of the International Rugby Board, a key decision-making body in world rugby.

Hoskins’ election to the seven-member entity took place during an annual meeting of the International Rugby Board (IRB) in Dublin, Ireland, on Wednesday, April 12. He was elected unanimously.

The Executive Committee is responsible for important decisions taken by the IRB, outside of the Council meetings.

“I am very pleased with the confidence members of the Board have shown in me and the South African constituency I represent” said Hoskins. “It puts us in a position to influence decisions that will affect the way forward for the game in our part of the world. Of course, this has to taken into account the needs of the game, within the global context.”

SA Rugby views Hoskins’ election as critical for the interests of the African continent, where South Africa is playing a major role in helping the game grow. Africa has shown tremendous growth, particularly within the context of the Confederation of African Rugby (CAR), where SA Rugby plays a prominent role.

“It is a strategic position, and we are very happy with that,” said SA Rugby CEO, Johan Prinsloo.

    Thank heavens.

We’ve lost so much influence on that body over the years.

About time we played our full part.

Congratulations Regan, make us proud and look out for our interests as well as the broader game’s.

I just wish the IRB would update his profile on their site. He’s been SARU president for over a month already.

By the by, Hoskins & Prinsloo are now our IRB representatives, along with Dr Jakoet.
