Interesting to see that Namibia is about 90 %
white and their Gov dont have the same skewwed
outlook on racial mix – A British Journo questioned their coach about affirmative action and quotas etc – their coach replied that their is none – they just pick their best side -
unlike our country .
August 17th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
Nolan,
Dont be fooled mate.
The fact that there is no set law or the media rips it to shit does not mean it does not exist.
Also remember that there are many different ethnic groups in Namibia – the ethnic blacks you in SA will refer to is mostly from up North as far as I understand, and the game of rugby is almost non-existent there and they actually could not care less.
A large portion of the rugby playing population is made up of coloureds or ‘basters’ as they refer to them here.
You only really have a strong rugby presence in and around Windhoek with the coast and the South contributing a bit to playing numbers – but distances makes it difficult to organise games for them outside the normal league.
In and around Windhoek you have mainly whites and coloureds/basters and they make up the numbers.
So don’t be fooled by the names you read, many of them are ‘PDI’s for a better word.
August 17th, 2007 at 3:24 pm
But yes where sport and stuff like that sells papers in SA it does not here – so no-one really cares.

The Namibia squad needs to be updated:
Sharks’ current first choice hooker Skipper Badenhorst will remain with the Sharks for the duration of the Absa Currie Cup and will not be going to the Rugby World Cup.
Citing family commitments for retiring from international rugby, he will not be joining up with Namibia for the rugby tournament in France later this year.
“From my side, I am disappointed about not going to the Rugby World Cup, it is any player’s dream, but my family is now my priority and I have therefore decided to retire from International rugby with immediate effect. he explained.
“I’d like to send my best wishes to Kees and the Namibian side.â€? Team mate and front row partner Kees Lensing is Namibia’s captain.
Prior to this decision, Skipper was scheduled to play his last match for the Sharks this weekend when they take on Griquas in Kimberley before joining up with Namibia as their preparations for the World Cup went into full-swing.
Having lost a number of players to the Springboks, Skipper’s decision to remain in Durban, and for The Sharks to retain an important figure in their team, having lost two other hookers to the Springboks, will add much-needed stability to the team going into the return leg of the Absa Currie Cup tournament.
The Sharks (Pty) Ltd Commercial Manager, Rudolf Straeuli, said that it was good news for The Sharks. “We are fortunate that we will be retaining the services of Skipper over this period, although we do feel for Namibia to lose a player of his calibre.

This retirement sounds like kak to me Quinny
August 17th, 2007 at 4:46 pm
lol, yip.
Maybe the Namibian management finally got hold of some tapes of Skipper in action – namely the CC semi vs the Cheaters last year …
August 17th, 2007 at 4:48 pm
Hey BF
I am a busy man and this thing doesn’t have a spell checker. :grrr:
August 17th, 2007 at 4:50 pm
Well at least now we know why he is still with the Sharks.
August 17th, 2007 at 4:50 pm
OR:
i) Skipper wants to make himself available for South Africa one day – he played SA u21 in the SANZAR comp, & I don’t think he’s actually played a game for Namibia yet. Look at Hendrik Meyer & his predicament.
ii) He wants to spend time with his wife – I think he may have a young family?
Personally, I think its a combo of the reasons above.
August 17th, 2007 at 4:52 pm
Quinny
so who is replacing him? You can’t just give us half the news.
August 17th, 2007 at 4:53 pm
Thanks for nothing Skipper.
Kwas.

And yes, this will be his 4th WC.
