Eagles beat Blue Bulls in dull match

In an uninspiring game at Outeniqua Park, the SWD Eagles defeated the Vodacom Blue Bulls.

News24 reports that the Eagles won 33-27, after leading 13-8.

If the idea of the new rugby laws were to speed-up the game and more tries to be scored, then the venture failed.

The proof of this is that 59 penalties and free kicks were awarded to the two teams.

The referees will be the most unpopular person on the field and at times the players are not to be criticised for this attitude.

The Eagles stuck to their gameplan of up and under and against the run of play they scored a try. Just on half-time the visitors replied with an unconverted try.

In the second half the home team scored another two tries.

The visitors weren’t outdone and winger Rocco Jansen crossed the tryline twice and in the 40 the minute their hardworking eight man, Okkie Kruger scored the bonus point try.

Point scorers were:

Eagles: 33 Tries: Henry Grimes, Allistar Kettledas and Hendrie v.do. Nest. Penalties. Nel Fourie (4). Conversions: Nel Forie (3).

Blue Bulls: 27 Tries: Stefan Dippenaar, Okkie Kruger and Rocco Jansen (2). Penalty: Francois Brummer. Conversions: Ruan Boshoff (2).

    Sensational result.

The win will motivate and inspire the Eagles for next time round that they can be and are giant killers.

    Rugby is a wonderful game.

I hoe they all shook hands afterwards – even with the ref.
