He has nothing to prove, says Isma-eel Dollie, who may play Currie Cup rugby for Boland against his former Western Province team-mates at Newlands on Saturday.
News24 reports that the former SA Under-21 flyhalf, who has moved to the Cavaliers, is still contracted to WP. He was among the substitutes when the Cape team lost to Griquas in Kimberley two weeks ago
Dollie was also in the national training squad earlier this year. But the 23-year-old is not as highly rated by WP as by Springbok coach Peter de Villiers.
WP coach Allister Coetzee feels Peter Grant and Willem de Waal are his best flyhalves. He also has Naas Olivier to call on. Dollie was therefore advised to switch to Boland.
De Waal has been WP’s first choice in Currie Cup rugby lately but Grant has been released from national duties and is likely to start at flyhalf this week.
Dollie is grateful for the opportunity he may receive from Boland.
“The important thing for me is not to prove a point. I last played rugby a month ago and I’ll be happy just to get on the field,” he said.
He also played Currie Cup rugby for the Cavaliers last season and was in the team that trounced WP at Wellington.
“My experience of last year will certainly count in my favour. I’ll know how to approach a match such as this one,” he said.
“I know what to expect from the WP players. I’m looking forward to the match.”
Coach Deon Davids still has to decide whether to play Dollie on Saturday. He also has to replace his injured centres, Piet van Zyl (hamstring) and Dewey Swartbooi (groin).
