Rugby teams red card xenophobia

Twenty five rugby teams from five Cape Town townships will mark their opposition to xenophobic attacks on immigrants with a major rugby tournament on Sunday.

News24 reports that Sunday league teams from Khayelitsha, Langa, Gugulethu, Nyanga, and Masiphumelele will meet in Fish Hoek to protest against intolerance.

“Rugby is a game that places strong emphasis on the fellowship of the game and with this tournament rugby players are sending a statement that that spirit should spread into the rest of our lives,” said Xhanti Lamani, Manager Club Rugby of the South African Rugby Union.

“Many of these rugby teams have shared their Sundays with soccer teams made up of immigrants and have enjoyed the universal language of sport. This is rugby’s message that intolerance should be red carded.”

The matches will take place at the Fish Hoek Sports Grounds from 10:00 on Sunday and feature informal rugby teams who play in Cape Town Sunday leagues.

Approximately 600 players – including youth and women’s teams will take part.

The match will be attended by rugby veterans and former Springboks as well as local and provincial department of sport officials.

Maybe SARU should ask Frolick to attend. Then atleast he can see how the game is played.

Seriously though maybe the Boks could show their faces there.

I Have over 15 foreigners working for me mostly Kenians throughout the country W/Cape ,F/State, E/Cape,Gauteng and Kzn although they complain about black South Africans attitude towards them they still do bussines ( Life Assurance ) daily with them venture into all the locations (townships) and do well because they are much harder workers than the South Africans no doubt about that and definately better educated nothing to do with our past it seems their education system is superior to ours and discipline is good and they are keen to learn and so they do well . This is why the South African Blacks dislike them , but despite that short period of violence there are no more MAJOR problems , seems like the situation is being exagerated .

    Why not just give them
    the free Cokes and T-shirts?

    I thought two Zambians have
    already sorted our prop problem?

Now to please Frolick, we need at
least one Bushman and an Indian and
a Chinese to represent the country’s
    demographics.

    Die man is ‘n brood.
