Where there’s smoke, there’s fire – and there’s plenty smoke in the Cape. Like Jake White coaching the Stormers and Rassie moving – guess where?
White is longing after a coaching job. He has done some work with Saracens and acted as a consultant elsewhere, but would rather coach where he can win cups, STEPHEN NELL reports in Die Burger.
Apparently the Lions are interested in his services, but White says he would like to remain close to the Mountain.
Rumours are abound that WP may be interested in White as coach for the Stormers.
White says he has not been approached, and that Erasmus has a long term contract with the union.
In walks one Cheeky Watson and adds to the rumour that the Eastern Cape are wooing Erasmus.
“We would like someone like Rassie to coach the team that plays the British Lions on 16 June.
“For the selection of the team we are looking for people with roots in the Eastern Cape. Rassie is a product from this region.
“We’ve always said we want the best coaches. It is easier for someone who was born here and understands the politics of the region. We have 120 clubs, and only 8 are white.”
White stands to lose his reputation as coach if he takes on the struggling Stormers, but this does not worry him.
“I like winning. Maybe I can win a S14 or a Currie Cup. I was twice honoured as the IRB’s coach of the year (2004 and 2007). One bad season will not make you a bad coach.”

The ultimate media propagande to get rid of Luke in the Stormers. Tell him Jake is going to coach them.
It is still amazing that a two times Coach of the Year is struggling to find a team to coach.

The incompetent Mob at WP Rugby will NEVER allow Jake to coach here! They are so entrenched in their racist ways that the next coach will probably be Chester!

First off, why is there talk of Rassie leaving?
He is no worse than any coach the WP had in the last 8 years.
Changing the coach will not change the situation in WP Rugby.

I would actually like him to coach the Stormers so that there can be no excuse when the Bulls take them apart again!!
Honestly, I never had much faith in Rassie neither as a player nor as a coach. Too much hot wind and not enough focus.

Rassie’s paranoia keeps shining
through, and he’s become very
innovative in the way he interprets
the match stats to favour his team.
He’s just working on a way to change
the scoreboard stats to reflect wins.
But I haven’t given up all hope: They
may even surprise vs the Waratahs.

It is very easy to come up with a game plan on paper.
It is kak difficult to implement it.
Rassie has a brilliant rugby brain, I have experienced it first hand.
He lacks normal man management skills imo just from sitting and listening to him and how he addresses the media.
The type of thing like a journo would ask him about the scrum and how this and that is weak.
Rassie will not address those issues head on, he either refers to stats or he says something like – ‘okay that is your opinion, I don’t agree with it.’
He needs a mentor, Rassie can compliment any coaching team, more than some assistant coaches I know – but I reckon he needs to be kept in check (not like a teacher type authority though).
I honestly think he lacks experience in coaching. That only comes with time.

That sums it up perfectly.

a critical question is not
necessarily a personal attack.
In Carel Dup, Dawie Snyman, Alan
Zondagh etc. he is surrounded by
a lot of good rugby brains to
tap into.
But he won’t.

And that is the experience part I refer to Oom Boer.
Great coaches surround themselves with great minds – Rassie at this stage has a great mind, but he is not a great coach.
It pisses me off to see a Hempies du Toit at the Varsity Cup Final thinking – hell just how badly does Rassie need a guy like him to help him…
But he does not.
Hence, not a great coach.
April 2nd, 2009 at 2:32 pm
Rassie have lost his way a little this year. I think he completely misinterpreted how to play under the ELVs.
What exactly is the game-plan at the Stormers?
Having as little possession as possible?
Pass and run without aim?
Play mostly in your own half?
Let the other team dictate the flow of the game?
The only game so far the Stormers played with an effective plan was against the Bulls.

What then in you okes’ opinion makes someone like Fergie (Man Utd) such a brilliant coach sustained over such a long period? Yes Man U has megabucks and can buy any player they want but still methinks it takes a special sort of coach / leader to keep winning major trophies year in and year out? I myself am a huge Liverpool supporter but since the mid eighties they just cannot get over that final hurdle and plays second fiddle to Man U pschychologically. Also with Chelsea – all the money in the world cannot buy coach and / or player commitment?

There is a “bible” book for all coaches aspiring to be a the top for years on end.
Research was done by writer on sporting teams outperforming their rivals over many many seasons – winning steaks if you like.
What is their “secret” ???
What – make possible – the feats of the following teams ???
University of Connecticut women’s basketball team winning 70 games on the trot.
De La Salle High School in Concord California winning every single football game for over 12 years
Australian Cricket team for over a decade the number 1 team.
These are not random happenings
these are not seasonal flukes
these are the result of deliberate – systems – providing constant success results.
The book by Rosabeth Moss Kanter is simply called Confidence.
Believe me – there is soooo much more than simply confidence in the book – confidence might be describes as the tip of the Ice-Berg.
Enjoy – I did and still do – going back over and over to the book.

Hi JT
Rugby is good – or let me say my rugby is good – the club is going kak – lost 60 – 7 on Sat – but I played very well. Made our only try – ran well with ball etc. tAckled very well and was very aggresive at ruck time – counter rucked well. Also got the most punches in – anbout 12
not bad for a guy who was out for 8 weeks who played only 50 minutes. Split their prop eye open. Seer gut jawohl
