Former Springbok and Bulls flyhalf Derick Hougaard is expected to make the move from Leicester to join Saracens, adding further South African flavour to the Watford-based club.

The Tigers have remained silent on the issue, but is believed that the deal was completed some time ago. The 26 year-old No.10 won an appeal for a work permit, after his initial application was refused because of lack of game time in both the Guiness Premiership and International rugby. He is now expected to report to training for the team led by fellow South African Brendan Venter.

The man with the prodigious boot suffered injury layoffs in his time at the Tigers and struggled to get a starting berth ahead of England’s Toby Flood and Sam Vesty.

Hougaard follows a host of South Africans, among them former Stormers hooker Schalk Brits, to Saracens.

Tigers are happier with a wing and centre playing 10 than Liefling – IMO they are happy he is leaving!
Too small, stands too deep and not quick enough with hands or feet to be a real challenger at the highest level.
