A legend in his own lunchtime

South African-born Leeds Carnegie flank Hendre Fourie has officially declared himself available for England selection after confirming that he had officially qualified for English residency.

The 29 year-old back row forward began his career in South Africa, playing for the Cheetahs, before moving to the UK to join the Rotherham Titans.

In 2007 then the former Maties and University of the Free State star signed for Leeds and, while much of his time at Headingley has been hampered by injury, has impressed during his two previous seasons with the club.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, Fourie explained that he had officially made the decision to make himself available for England selection, saying the South African selectors had already had their chance to make use of him.

“I’ve qualify through residency and I would definitely play if they wanted me,” Fourie told BBC Radio Leeds.

“South Africa didn’t want me when I played there, so if England selected me I’d be honoured.

“I’ve signed the papers to say am I now an English player and not a foreigner in the team,” explained Fourie.

“If they want to pick me, they can and I’d certainly be keen to play.

“It would be hard to play against the Springboks, but if they ring me up then I will play.

“I think I’m a better player now than when the South Africa selectors were looking at me five years ago, so we’ll see.”

In posting this thread, I had
    to select a category.
    I thought “RuggaWorld Humour”

The selectors did not see him as he was playing Vodacom Cup Rugby for the Free State…

If he gets selected for England, we could either assume that the Vodacom cup is at an extremely high level, or ells England Rugby is at an extremely low level.

I’d like to think first mentioned, but realistically it’s probably the latter
