Jean called up for Irish test

November 25, 2009

Jean de Villiers has been called into the Bok squad after Adi Jacobs failed a fitness test and was sent back home.

Keo.co.za reported that Jean has been called up as cover (or possibly starting) for the injured Jacobs who is on his way back to South Africa.

The decision is an obvious one after Jacobs failed to recover from an ankle injury sustained in the Italy test as Jean is already in Ireland where he does duty for Irish club Munster currently.

The Bok team will be announced tomorrow.

Jirre but now Snorre really looks like clutching at straws…
To be honest not a good sign for him and his planning/management – what to make of it all :?
JdV has not set the world on fire in Ireland since his move either

Although I am happy to Jean back in the team, this is utter bullshit, Can PDV decide if he gonna use overseas base players or not.

Meisiekind was in any case supposed to have been in the team from the start.

And where did Jocobs got his injuries from, when he took off his boots after the game.

    Gotta lotta hookers –
    won’t miss Bismarck
    much.
    His brother even less,
    since they are apparently
    inseparable since birth.

I can see Morne starting with Jean on the bench. I hear on radio that Kanko received a big bump to the head?

So will we see Smit start at 2 with Strauss on the bench and Danie starting at 8 with Deysel and Brussouw and Burger on bench?

No Boer Bissie is an yster but he needs to learn some humility and get his form back. Problem is Strauss is a very consistent player and will be hard to remove once he gets in, much like Gary was under Jake.

Jannie is a good player but his heart lies elsewhere. He needs to take a break for 2 years or so and just work as a doctor and see if he still has the hunger to be the best,

Boer Liebenberg is a good player but he is a huge ego. He fits in well with Rassie and the boys but when it matters most he is just a fat kif with a bot of aggro. No different in fact to Lucas Van Biljon.

Strauss and Gary are both aggro but both have a rugby maturity not unlike that of John Smit. When it ocmes to doing the basics Strauss is just below Smit. Have to see the new Gary but he was also a discolined hard working player who did the basics right.

Liebenberg is on and off and I fear spends too much time high fiving his team mates instead of working on his game.

Reply to Boertjie @ 8:51 pm: Agree on Gary he would be the logical person, with liebenberg and Strauss I like alot. But I do think Gary will have inside lane.

Bismark is highly rated but something is wrong there, I can be one of the best, everybody is saying how strong he is, but how strong is he really in the scrums.

Any insite from someone who knows players who played against him?

On Jean being called up into the squad, my immediate feeling was, at last sanity prevails. So what if he is plying his trade overseas, at least he is still a Saffer. JT says above that Jean has not performed well in Ireland but I would still rate him highly as having the potential to spark that backline of ours into life. It is not for nothing that Jean is highly rated overseas and past performances for WP, the Stormers and the Boks show he has exceptional talent.

Reply to out wide @ 10:04 pm: Happy that he is gonna be in the side even if it is on the bech, PDV must just make up his mide on overseas players, Hougaardt, Pienaar is all so called utility backs, so my question is just is this panic from Coaching staff?

    I do think so

But Good for the Boks if the ring necks start panic

be interesting to see the Bok team, i’d play Olivier and Fourie at centre, with Deysel at 7 and Rossouw at 8. Schalk coming off the bench in the last 25. If he’s on the starting team sheet it will just give the Irish a psychological handle to winde themselves up.

Dit sal darem maar nice wees om vir ou Tina weer terug te he in die span, hulle kan hom ook maar net so wel kies vir 15, want tussen Pienaar en Kirchner is die kas ook maar leeg daar agter langs.

Jammerte Rose is terug SA toe.

Not that Rose is remotely comparable to Francois Steyn though.

Ironically, Steyn has been nominated for IRB player of the year, yet at bok level they moer on with subordinate other players to prove a point to overseas players.

They have however already set the precedent in selecting from abroad with CJ, BJ and now JdV, they might as well pull in Steyn to play @ 15.

Don’t read too much into the OS selections, not yet.

Very convenient to select them now, while touring in NH, but 3N will be different story. Mark my words.
:snor: just covering for his own arse in a way – get the tried & tested to help, albeit with them plying the trade OS, instead of flying more of his failing witbroodjies (or more deserving players, for that matter) in at high cost & them then being little jetlagged as well.
CJ, BJ & Jean familiar with setup and only quick, cheap flight away.

I might be wrong but it does makes sense…
