There is one confirmed movement from a French club and two possible movements to a French club. The players involved are Steve Meyer, Doug Howlett and Bismarck du Plessis.

The French daily, L’Indépendant, reports that though Meyer has six months to run on his contract with Perpignan, the Catalans will release him to join the Sharks and that he will do this next week on a two-year contract.

Meyer, who is from Durban, joined Perpignan three seasons ago but has suffered injury and then, since recovering, has found it hard to get game time as his compatriot Gavin Hume, more usually a centre, has established himself at flyhalf.

The Sharks have a problem in that position as Juan Martín Hernández has suffered a long-term injury and will not be available for the Super 14.

According to La Provence Toulon’s entrepreneurial president, Mourad Boudjellal, is at present in conversation with veteran All Black wing Doug Howlett and the powerful Springbok hooker Bismarck du Plessis.

Howlett is at present playing for Leinster and Du Plessis for the Sharks where he may well find competition for the hooking berth, both at the Sharks and for the Springboks, from John Smit, captain of the Sharks and the Springboks.

Maybe Doc Jannie can come to Joburg and be tighthead with Heinke as loose head…

After all he got discarded by the Free State and then the Sharks just hired him like spoilt little children “just because” and never used him and the Capies are dikbek because Ra$$ie offered him a wad of $$$$ and he middle fingered them to go and do buggerall at the Shocks
