The Sharks have defied SA Rugby by including Willem Alberts in their squad for the upcoming Tri-Series against the Stormers and Force.
Earlier this week it was reported that SA Rugby’s conditions on the availability of players on the issue of release certificates was that no player may play for another union until his current, or previous union issues him with a certificate to play elsewhere.
Manie Reynecke from the Lions have been adamant that neither Willem Alberts nor Louis Ludik have been released from their contracts and commitments to the Lions and is therefore not allowed to play for the Sharks, even in warm-up matches.
The Sharks on the other hand claim that both Alberts and Ludik has the same contract as Jaque Fourie, now with the Stormers, who won his arbitration case against the Lions.
SA Rugby, for some obscure reason stated they refuse to get involved and that the unions must sort out their own mess.
More on this as it develops.

Reynekes head is so far up his ass he is on a hiding to nothing by being so stubborn.
His administration and management is fit for a junior school.
Had he continued paying the last 3 months salaries for Ludik & Alberts he might have had a valid claim, but this failure to issue clearances is nothing but childish and revealing how dumb he his.
He has cost the Lions tens of millions over the years and he thinks he is saving face by not issuing a player clearance, that was over and long gone 90 days ago. This is something that is done in 5 minutes.
The man is an idiot and a liability to the union.

the sharks are crazy. Must be all the sewerage in the Durban seawater. The rules are clear. Whether the player trains with you or not, you need to sort out clearance first.
Having said that, the Lions are plonkers. You do not try and force people to stay, when it is obvious they want to go. Just look at the form of Fourie and Bakkies in 2008 season at the Bulls. You can win legal battles, but not a player’s heart. And a player without heart is like a golfer without a putter, useless!
