Just as news came through that the Bulls have agreed to loan lock Wilhelm Steenkamp to the Sharks for the remainder of the Super 14 season, they suffered and injury to their first choice lock in Danie Rossouw.
Media release
The Vodacom Bulls will have to do without the services of lock Danie Rossouw for their opening Super 14 encounter at Loftus Versfeld against the Brumbies on Saturday.
Rossouw received a blow to the neck in training and has been ruled out of the clash. He will be replaced by Flip van der Merwe, who came off the bench in his Super 14 debut for the Vodacom Bulls last weekend.
Van der Merwe’s place on the bench will be taken by Fudge Mabeta.
The 23-year old lock has played for the Vodacom Bulls in warm-up matches before, but will earn his first Super 14 cap if called upon.

Reply to JT @ 3:14 pm: This is the only reason why I still have doubt about them making the Semi’s, they need to manage their stars

I recall in 2002 poor old Stuaeli had a similar issue with something like 18 frontline Boks dropping out with injuries… including that Paarl Drop my eie man captain with his fat lip Corne Krige

You guys can be full of your self and the bulls you like, no team can afford to loose to many players in a competition like the S14 not even the Bulls.
Like I said before the pre-season started, the Bulls will not make the semi’s because they gonna have to many injuries because their star players is over played.
This is nothing new said, it has been spoken about for the past 5 months. But live in your little dream world, at the end of the season you will admit that I was right.
Do not get me wrong, I would like the Bulls as any other SA team to do well in the S14, I am just realistic about it.
Their is allot of pressure on the Bulls to be the first team in SA to retain the S14 and to do well. My believe is that they are rushing players back from injury and we will have each week players braking down. The sad thing is the provinces give a Fu.. because for them it is to win or in the Bulls case to retain the S14 no matter what. The do not give a rats arsh about the bigger picture of SA Rugby and next years WC.
The same thing is and will continue with the Sharks and the Bulls and other teams Boks.

Sorry meneer but having been at Loftus and toured facilities and spoken to the people behind the scene I think you aqre trying to compare the Cape morons with everyone else.
The Bulls are probably the onme union in South Africa whom you cannot accuse of mismanaging their players…
They are the one union that can actually afford to let players get injured and rested in South Africa and their record of resting key players in CC and S14 is ample proof of that.
Have you seen their hi-perfformance centre?
You should… it’ll tell you a lot about the professionalism of the Bulls

I tghink that pietploos who is a WP man too and who has seen the way the Bulls run things will definitively back me up here
