The Brumbies were made to work much harder for their 24-13 Super 14 win against a Lions second-string outfit in Canberra on Saturday, failing to collect the four-try bonus point they so desperately wanted.
rugby365
With rain before and during the game, the difficult conditions would have contributed to the stop-start nature of the encounter.
However, the Canberra outfit would be disappointed at not getting the bonus point, event though they always looked in control against the Lions. The win, their third in four rounds, saw them move into a top four position on the standings.
Referee Steve Walsh, the Kiwi who now works out of Australia after being dismissed in his own country, showed he has lost none of the attitude that has made him so unpopular in South Africa over the years. He certainly didn’t endear himself to the Lions with his self-indulgent mannerism and number of Brumby offences he missed.
However, the Lions were certainly their own worst enemies – with far too many slipped tackles and some shocking discipline.
Lions coach Dick Muir has clearly not driven home the message that attacking play is not the only important aspect of the game – defending and not conceding penalties willy-nilly are equally important.
Until that message is taken on board, the Lions will continue to lose more games than they win.
And the Men in Red’s set pieces certainly also left a lot to be desired, while their shockingly poor option taking also played into the hands of the home team.
The scorers:
For the Brumbies:
Tries: Penalty try, Lealiifano, Moore
Cons: Giteau 3
Pens: Giteau
For the Lions:
Try: Franklin
Con: Francis
Pens: Francis 2
Yellow card: Kevin Buys (Lions, 28 – repeated infringements, collapsing scrum)

Nope !!!
Laughed the other day for comment at RugbyDump
the referrenced a frontrow try – and were aclaiming it as one of the best.
And one comment read – giatric can sidestep – non-tackling Rose.
Rose must be the only rugby player in the world – except Naas – who gets rewarded for NOT takling
well actually acting-as-if-tackling-yet-purposefully-missing

JT,
Did you see the difference between JP Joubert and Will Genia yesterday?
Genia understands the scrumhalf positional laws.
Did you speak to JP Joubert?
