The involvement of Rassie Erasmus in a mooted IPL-style rugby tournament has caused a stir at Western Province.

Theuns Roodman, chief executive of the Western Province Rugby Union, has written to clubs this week to inform them that no permission had been granted for such a tournament.
He says in the letter that WP have “no information” about the planned tournament.
Sport24 reported on Sunday that Erasmus is part of a consortium that will manage the competition.
“The union did not sanction any such competition or gave anyone permission to stage such an event. An event of such nature must have the sanction of SARU and the IRB, and is considered a SARU matter,” Roodman wrote to clubs.
The tournament is set to be staged from January 2012 in the Cape Town and Moses Mabidha Stadiums.
Erasmus currently works as WP’s director of coaching.
The planned tournament may well clash with an existing sponsorship of WP.
It is understood that the sponsorship of a pre-season triangular tournament between the Stormers, Sharks and Western Force by Neo Africa stretches until 2012.
Roodman said that the decision to communicate with clubs was a result of him being inundated with questions about WP’s possible involvement in the proposed tournament at Cape Town Stadium.
“We don’t even know the facts yet. I have been pounded with questions from the clubs,” said Roodman.
Pat Kuhn, chairperson WP Rugby (Pty) Ltd’s board, did not want to comment on the matter on Thursday.
It is believed that it’s currently the topic of internal discussion at WP.

The circus begins again.
He said she said, Somebody says it’s a big misunderstanding. Media quoting out of context etc. etc.

Again WP Rugby show there Managment abilities. Idiots

Perhaps Rassie should concentrate on winning a damn tournament while he is DOR of WP rugby rather than idiotic ideas like this.

Ja but once arch skelm Frikkie Erasmus has whispered to WP that he is their lawyer they will conveniently forget about this moonlighting escapade.
IMO Rassie is now a waste for WP and the Stormers… the English DOR creation has proven a failure there and everywhere it was used despite being hailed as some sort of miracle creation at the time…
Now very few teams have DOR’s… even not sure what Heyneke Meyer is actually doing at Bulls as DOR

Bulls, Lions and Stormers all have DOR’s – however Rassie calls himself something like the ‘Senior manager of professional coaches’ or some shit title like that.

The position of DOR is obviously succefully utilised at the Bulls as the results are clear enough for everyone to see.
Heyneke now has the freedom to focus on what he was so good at in the past, developing structures, identifying new talent, player and coach management and ensuring the development and smooth transition of players through the ranks.
Breeding success at all levels within the franchise in turn ensures that you breed players that are accustomed to a winning culture.
In the case of Rassie, there were obvious dividends with the Stormers, however you don’t notice this at other levels. Neither do you see a lot of new talent emerging etc. What is he then really doing?? I have always been of the opinion that the big aura that surrounds him is definately not justified…..

To be a fly on the wall for Rassies review meeting come contract renewal time.

Yep,
Rassie seems like a very nice guy, but looking at his sudden and unexpected move from FS to WP, coupled with these new developments it would seem that the Erasmus-click definately want as big a portion of the financial action that they can lay their hands on (instead of Rassie just focussing on his responsibilities at WP).
Ah well, the professional era…….

Let’s wait to see what actually happened (if we ever actually do) before blaming.
In these cases it is often not as clear cut as it originally appears
