ANCYL wants Stofile fired . . .

. . . and it has nothing to do with rugby transformation.
President Jacob Zuma should fire Sport and Recreation Minister Makhenkesi Stofile because he has performed “shockingly” during the World Cup, the ANCYL in eThekwini said on Wednesday.

SAPA

“We believe that Stofile has been a periphery figure during the soccer World Cup,” said Lindela Ngwazi, African National Congress Youth League regional chairperson.

The league believed the minister’s overall performance during the tournament was shocking, he said.

“We have noticed that Arts and Culture Minister Lulu Xingwana has always been in the spotlight since the start of the tournament and the sports minister was nowhere to be seen,” he said.

Visible

He said as the minister of sport, Stofile should be visible and play a leading role during the tournament.

“We have now lost all confidence in him and we therefore call on the president to immediately replace him with a more energetic person who will represent the aspirations of millions of young people of South Africa,” said Ngwazi.

The minister’s office was not immediately available to comment.

Ngwazi said the youth league believed that Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa, his deputy Fikile Mbalula and the national police commissioner, General Bheki Cele had excelled during the World Cup.

“They have done well in ensuring that thousands of our visitors are safe.”

    They should call for the
firing of 90% of the cabinet
    and all the premiers apart
    from Godzille.

Oh before the France / Bafana game they issued a press statement telling the national coach how he should select the side!

Hulle is enig in hulle soort…

The coach told them where to f–koff to though…. but my guess is if they do that with SARU, it’d be ja my baas nee my baas…

But how the hell should the minister of sport be such a standout… after all SURELY the teams, players, coaches and even crowds should come first…. the government wins by being invisible…

    BUt then again

    This is Africa

Reply to DavidS @ 4:58 pm: In most, if not all, 1st world democratic countries the sports minister is very low profile.

I’d guess most people would be hard pressed to name their sports minister.

But in SA for some reason he’s a main pikkewyn. :1up:

The USA have no sport department, agency or committee.

It is simply not a function of Government.

If sporting bodies act illegally it is a matter for Justice, regulation is a matter for Commerce or Health, support falls under Arts and Culture.
