Springbok coach Peter de Villiers has clarified statements attributed to him in the media with regard to the staging of the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand next year.
De Villiers was interviewed on Fox Sport’s Rugby Club programme in Australia on Wednesday and his statements have subsequently been carried by print media in Australia and further afield.
“In no manner did I ever suggest that the All Blacks were being favoured – by match officials or anyone else – because their country was hosting the Rugby World Cup next year,” de Villiers said.
“I have stated many times during the past weeks that the All Blacks were better than us in their victories in Auckland and Wellington. Whilst I have also expressed unhappiness over some refereeing issues, this is a separate matter altogether and has no bearing on what I said.
“My comment during the Rugby Club interview was based on the general view that part of the success of any World Cup event rests on the fact that the host Nation has a winning team.
“This view has been misinterpreted and I wish to make it clear that I had no other intention than to make that specific point. Nevertheless, I regret that this may have created the wrong impression and raised undue concern for SANZAR and the RWC 2011 organisers.
“I also want to assure all Springbok supporters that we will continue to strive for success. We are proud South Africans and we will always do our best for our country”.

Just shut up. The more this guy talk the more he looks and act like a clown
July 23rd, 2010 at 9:35 am
What an absolute clown… this muppet can spout any old crap he wants… yet Brendan Cannon has too apologise (which he just has on the Foxsportsnews)…
Ah the old ‘victim’ mentality alive and well… makes me sick!
July 23rd, 2010 at 9:35 am
That’s how I saw it.
Nowhere did he use the word conspiracy. If anything it’s a made up media conspiracy.
July 23rd, 2010 at 9:38 am
And for all you “Emperor’s New Clothes” mob that will no doubt try to defend this buffoon…
There is no doubt what he was saying…

Brendan’s snide (grin and all) ‘apology’ was kak-snaaks… farking embarrassing as a Bok fan… (I could practically hear the camera-man and the entire TRC commentators laughing from here…

This is how bad it is with sprinbok rugby at tghis stage
All we have talked about this past week since the AB test is Richie who gets away with murder and bithing about ref’s.
O then we were talking a while about the team selection. This is not good for a buildup to a test which we have to win if we want any say in the 3N.

PDV is a GENIUS!!
He Hoodwinked the AB’s in the last 2 tests setting them up for a
come WC2011.
Make them set up their defense to cope with a certain gameplan and in that weakening them for a surprise change come WC2011 time.
Make them believe their own hype and by the time WC2011 comes around
He is getting under the skin of the Aussies, getting them to feel superior to SA and thus thinking all is well in their rugby till they also get a
when it matters
Bravo

who cares about this 3N when the bigger prize is on offer next season
JW did the same the year before the last WC! He made the bokke play under par and a simple gameplan not to give anything away. Lost more than he won and when his job was under threat he pulled out a win just to stay in there. PdV doing the same

Aha I see… so what you’re saying is that Snor and co are still using Jake White’s tactics?

“I’ve got my own observations about the last two Tests, and maybe I can’t say it in public, but we do have a World Cup in New Zealand next year and maybe it was the right thing for them to win the games so they can attract more people to the games next year.”
Now hang on a minute here.
If you weren’t suggesting that they were being favoured, why then did you specifically say “….maybe I can’t say it in public…”?
July 23rd, 2010 at 10:38 am
“Ek wil nie skinner, poep of kakpraat nie ne, MAAR ……”
I don’t really want to say this, BUT, …..
then you say it anyway?
“….maybe I can’t say it in public… but…”?

Reply to welshbok @ 10:38 am:
Because he is a buffoon of the highest order… plain and simple…
“Given that de Villiers prefaced his remarks by conceding he should not say them publicly and then ignored his own advice, he does not even have the Giteau defence that he spoke off-the-cuff and without due consideration.
Yet, even while SANZAR wrestles with the dilemma of whether it wants to muzzle de Villiers, South Africa were working within that same organisation to press their claims that referees and judiciary officials are biased against the Springboks.
According to South African media reports, SARU president Regan Hoskins has instructed South Africa’s representative on SANZAR’s legal committee, Judge Lex Mpati to “take up” the issue of inconsistent rulings against the Boks.
“A number of stakeholders have complained to me about the lack of consistency in the rulings of the judicial officials in rugby,” Hoskins told the Cape Times.
The dual “initiatives” by de Villiers and Hoskins indicate the growing alarm in the South Africa ranks about how badly off the pace their team was in both Tests in New Zealand and point to the level of desperation the Springboks will bring to Saturday night’s Tri Nations clash with the Wallabies in Brisbane.”

No problem with coaches/captains/players hyping it up a bit before the game, but keep it sane, man.

SO dis terug dokter toe.
“Raait,” sê die dokter. “Traai dit andersom. Laat die jong ou jou vrou naai en dan waai jy die haddoek.”
Hulle traai dit so.
DIS hoe jy ‘n handdoek waai.”
