The game of the Varsity Cup will take place on Monday as Ikeys host Maties in the ‘windtunnel’ as its known, before that though, Jacques focusses on an area of the Varsity Cup which is equally as important as winning games.

Breaking away a bit this week on featuring a team, I would like to concentrate on behind the scenes of the Steinhoff FMB Varsity Cup 2011.

Following the success of the “Pink Shorts” campaign last year, this year a similar campaign is running. The only exception is that it will go for a different cause. This year all money will go for on off the bigger problems in South Africa society namely Violence against Woman.

All eight Varsity Cup “Players that Rocks” each week will wear pink shorts. The message from the guys this year in wearing pink is to “Keep the Agro on the field”.  Support at the grounds and television viewers at home can also make donations via a special SMS line and then help settling the on-going debate concerning the Best Supported University in South Africa.

Each SMS will cost you R2 and all proceeds will go towards a Varsity Cup Trust, which will then donate in a bid to prevent violence against woman. Bigger donations can also be made via the SMS Lines with Supersport pledging its support to this initiative by televising all donations of R5000-00 and more. The players will also step up by personally assist, as a team at nearby shelters.

DONATIONS CAN BE MADE BY SMS’ING THE NAME OF THE UNIVERSITY YOU SUPPORT TO 34220.

Varsity Cup MD, Duitser Bosman told Varsitycup.co.za “Where would we be without the woman in our lives? Our Mothers, wives, girlfriends, sisters, daughters; they are all to be treasured and celebrated – not abused in any way.”

An addition to this year’s campaign will also see the Man of the Match given a bunch of pink roses which they can have delivered to the most imported person in their life; be it a grandmother, mother, sister or girlfriend.

Bosman added: “It’s just another little way for our weekly stars to say thanks to those important women in their lives.”

SMS the name of your Varsity Cup team to 34220 and help your team make a difference (sms costs R2)

* This fantastic campaign can be followed via www.varsitycup.co.za throughout the year, but make sure you show your support to your favorite Varsity Cup team – and the women in your lives – by SMS’ing the name of your team to 34220.

So start SMS’ing now and give your support to our Woman in our Country.
