Habana, Jean out, Jantjes back

DHL Stormers coach, Allister Coetzee, were forced to make some changes to his team following some injuries.

Jean de Villiers is still sidelined from a groin injury which kept him out last week.  He will be joined on the sidelines by Bryan Habana who sustained a shoulder injury in the game against the Reds.

Another injury blow is Rynhardt Elstadt who will be replaced by De Kock Steenkamp with the only other change being rotational where CJ van der Linde will start ahead of Brok Harris.

Conrad Jantjes returns to the team following a couple of games in the Western Province Vodacom Cup team and will take over the 15 jersey from Gio Aplon who shifts to wing.  Jean’s absence means Juan de Jongh will get his second start at 12 alongside Jaque Fourie.

Stormers team for Lions:

15 Conrad Jantjes, 14 Danie Poolman, 13 Jaque Fourie, 12 Juan de Jongh, 11 Gio Aplon, 10 Peter Grant, 9 Dewaldt Duvenage, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Francois Louw, 6 Schalk Burger (c), 5 Andries Bekker, 4 De Kock Steenkamp, 3 CJ van der Linde, 2 Deon Fourie, 1 Wicus Blaauw.

Replacements: 16 Ethienne Reynecke, 17 Brok Harris, 18 Anton van Zyl, 19 Nick Koster, 20 Ricky Januarie, 21 Gary van Aswegen, 22 Johann Sadie.

IMO there is still enough even on current form for the Boks to be a force… even if one or two are injured come play-offs…

That is if handling and breakdown improves, correct 22man picks are made including a few OS players starting with Frans (who still hasn’t received a call about Snor’s Lion’s quip in the media), and the game-plan is refined and adhered to including ‘plan B’…

A much fitter Smit regaining form atm off the bench for the Boks is the least of the worries…

And so as the Rebels come near the end of their ‘non poaching of contracted players’ period they have already secured Kurtley Beale for next year… and rumour has it perhaps James O Connor (although the Captain deciding to give up OS money and end his career at the Force this might change)…

Backline sorted… now for some forwards…

Bryce, I have more of an issue with the non-resting of players like Matfield, Morné Steyn, Habana etc.

We’re going to have very few well rested players come 3N which will be a lose/lose situation for PDV when he has to choose between resting and blooding.

Is Habana really injured or are they just trying to smooth the image?

Ah crap, this means the Lions will be playing against 15 men and not 14…. :soek:

    Stomers by……plenty I think.

Lions have a history of giving the Breezes all hell, not allowing them BP’s etc.
This may just be the game they come alive.

Don’t think so. The Lions are down and out. Don’t expect a miracle this Saturday. I think if the Lions can keep the Stomers score below 50 points it will be good.

Hearing some news is that Franco will be dropped from squad. One positive is that Jacobie Adriaanse will be in the starting XV.

So by the looks the Lions forwards will probably be:

    1. JC Janse van Rensburg
    2. Bandise Maku
    3. Jacobie Adriaanse
    4. David de Villiers
    5. Wikus van Heerden
    6. Cobus Grobellaar
    7. Micahel Rhodes
    8. Warren Whiteley

David de V is ‘n hardwerekende slot.
Wonder hoekom is hy by die Cheetahs weg?

En met Sicknote Petoors sal hulle seker weer die Bidsprinkaan moet kies.
