Ruan, Steyn back for Super Rugby?
With the European season coming to an end, rumors are flying around about South African players returning home to bring themselves in contention for Rugby World Cup squad selection.
The Rapport newspaper today suggested that Ulster scrumhalf, Ruan Pienaar, could well find himself playing in a Bulls or Stormers jersey in as little as two weeks from now. Ulster will play in the Magners League semi-final this weekend and if they lose, Pienaar could be on a plane back to South Africa the very next day.
Just where he will go to is anyone’s guess, but the two franchises mentioned so far are the Stormers and Bulls. This is a result of a phone call from Bok coach, Peter de Villiers, to Pienaar in which he said he would like him to get used to the pace of Super rugby as soon as possible.
Another player De Villiers wants to see back desperately is Frans Steyn.
Steyn too is another who might be back in South Africa sooner rather than later and it is no secret that the Lions have been chasing the player’s signature from Racing Metro for a while now.
James to run out for Lions this weekend
Butch James, who played his last game for Bath yesterday is said to join the Lions on tour immediately where he is expected to be selected this weekend when the Lions play the Brumbies in Canberra
