Rugby News (Sun): Pienaar to Stormers/Bulls?

Here is the latest rugby news from around the world.

Ruan, Steyn back for Super Rugby?

With the European season coming to an end, rumors are flying around about South African players returning home to bring themselves in contention for Rugby World Cup squad selection.

The Rapport newspaper today suggested that Ulster scrumhalf, Ruan Pienaar, could well find himself playing in a Bulls or Stormers jersey in as little as two weeks from now.  Ulster will play in the Magners League semi-final this weekend and if they lose, Pienaar could be on a plane back to South Africa the very next day.

Just where he will go to is anyone’s guess, but the two franchises mentioned so far are the Stormers and Bulls.  This is a result of a phone call from Bok coach, Peter de Villiers, to Pienaar in which he said he would like him to get used to the pace of Super rugby as soon as possible.

Another player De Villiers wants to see back desperately is Frans Steyn.

Steyn too is another who might be back in South Africa sooner rather than later and it is no secret that the Lions have been chasing the player’s signature from Racing Metro for a while now.

James to run out for Lions this weekend

Butch James, who played his last game for Bath yesterday is said to join the Lions on tour immediately where he is expected to be selected this weekend when the Lions play the Brumbies in Canberra

John Smit heading to Saracens

John Smit will head to Europe following the Rugby World Cup.  Rapport reported that the South African skipper is set to join up with Saracens following the world event in New Zealand later this year.

Both these teams desperately need a 9 of RP’s quality (that can play 10)…

Personally I’d like to see him back at Durban in place of McLeod… but no doubt he won’t ever return…

What ever happened to “what goes on tour, stays on tour”?

Nothing, this wasn’t on tour. G Botha apparently had a waitress in his car while wife and kid was in the restaurant.

I did not read the full article, but Spies did not take lightly to it being a man of faith and that is where the bulls tear started. This was in January already and explain to an extent why some of the bulls didn’t look motivated on the field.

Also heard the Elton has signed, or going to sign, for Province.

To Jaco Taute, time to jump ship as well. I’m giving the GLRU 5 years then they will be closing shop.

Reply to G-Man @ 10:30 am: Theres Grant, Cronje is starting to show some form, Gary van Aswegen is not bad , Kurt Coleman has got a few minutes soup rugby under his belt and even Dimitri Catrekalis has won himself a hooped jersey, I think buying in Elton would be a waste.

agree – rather send him to the Sharks or Cheetahs.

Don’t know why Spies is getting his panties in a twist unless he is somehow related… If not it is none of his business IMO. :Dawie:

So it’s o.k to cheat on your wife? Spies is not just a work colleague but a friend too. Won’t you tell your friends if you thought they were making a mistake?

Gary is responsible for his actions – noone else, that is all I am saying.

This is again something I don’t agree with – look at what they guys do on the field and if he is not bringing his bit on the field then rate him on that. what happens off the field is none of our business. Just IMO.
