According to the man who always has his finger on the pulse, Brenden Nel from SuperRugby, the Blue Bulls managed to secure the signatures of WP duo Johann Sadie and JJ Engelbrect on a 2-year contract following the 2011 Currie Cup.
News broke earlier this week that Sadie might be looking to leave WP and Stormers rugby given that the current first choice centers, De Villiers, Fourie and De Jongh all looked likely to re-sign with the union (De Villiers signature was already confirmed).
Offers from both WP Rugby and the Blue Bulls was on the table, but as many suggested, the promise of game-time (something the Blue Bulls apparently guaranteed) would be the deciding factor in his decision.
In a report, the Bulls’ Ian Schwartz also confirmed they have been ‘chasing’ Sadie since he was in school, believing him to be a potential Springbok in years to come.
As many WP or Stormers fans will tell you, the Blue Bulls (yet again) scored a major coup with the signing of the duo.

I guess the Lions talent pool has been sucked dry. So much for Bulls development. Another 4 years and they will be almost as bad as the Sharks.

I understand their reason for moving, it’s a profession! If you get offered a better contract, you change company too…
Pity Stormers lost them both! But the Bulls did make a deal with the devil, you don’t give quaranteed game time! One minute a player is on top and starting every week, then something happens and their form is nowhere like it used to be!
Think Conrad Jamtjies, in his prime who would go against him starting and playing 60min a game! Not many, but since his injury he hasn’t been the same! Now his form may comeback, but you don’t want to be in a semi or final with a contract that quarantees him 60min! Then if you can pay him for violation of contract, that’s not a great motivation to return to top form!
I feel the same about Conrad Hoffman’s contract at the Sharks!
Rassie will miss them, but he can’t make such deals!
On Brussouw, we lost a Top Class fetcher, and even if we have a junior coming a senior with experience can help them grow to that level! It’s sad to lose Flo, but a junior will still get plenty game time with Rassie and Coetzee at the Helm!
On props CJ didn’t produce what we needed from him this year, he’s there to play and teach the new guys some tricks! I’m sure Proudfoot is dissapointed just like we all are, but they looking for longterm depth and strength! If these young props get a chance, who knows maybe we find a new Os or Guthro in WP somewhere! But these Province props definately seem to need to eat more “Pap”…
