Juan losing battle against time

With lock Flip van der Merwe also on his way home, and Alistair Hargreaves training without any discomfort on Tuesday, it looks like that the Boks will again utilise Danie Rossouw as a loose forward.

The Sharks’ lock combination of Hargreaves and Gerhard Mostert (now at Stade Francais) look set to pack down against the All Blacks, with Rossouw to be used at No 8.

His spot at flank could be taken up by either Jean Deysel or Ryan Kankowski.

Springbok coach Peter de Villiers also confirmed that injured flank Heinrich Brüssow will be released to play 20 minutes for the Cheetahs in the Currie Cup next week.

“We will give him 20 minutes and if he performs well he will be considered for the home leg of the Tri-Nations,” said De Villiers.

However, things are not looking good for Juan Smith.

“We are worried that he hasn’t yet reached the level we hoped he would,” the coach said about the star Free State flank.

Smith is busy recovering from a Achilles injury, and is in a race against time to get fit for the World Cup.

“We are hoping that Juan could play 40 minutes or so against the All Blacks in Port Elizabeth, but even that looks unlikely,” said De Villiers.

Not sure anyone can come back after that injury and retain their speed… and without that speed I’m afraid Juan doesn’t offer anything anymore…

Snor has stated Danie is his understudy… yet I don’t agree with that either particularly in light of Bekker’s injury…

IMO Danie is a better lock than loosie… and adds so much in that dept off the bench (hell we might even have a decent impact bench for a change)!

Alberts is the man for the job imo… or perhaps Burger…
