Springbok centre Jaque Fourie is set to stay in Japan after a two-year offer of R22 million and probably won’t be available for the Stormers in next year’s Super Rugby tournament.
Stephen Nell, Die Burger
Die Burger reports that the 28-year-old looks likely to accept a massive offer in Japan which won’t see him return to play for the Cape franchise.
Fourie, who plays for the Panasonic club, was expected to return at the end of March to play in the Super Rugby tournament, but an apparent R22 million offer for two years is likely to keep him in Japan.
With Fourie gone, the Stormers will be decidedly thin in the centre department with Jean de Villiers and Jaque Fourie the only recognised centres left. This comes after the men from the Cape lost two promising talents in Johann Sadie (to the Bulls) and Tim Whitehead (to the Sharks).
An injury to either De Villiers or De Jongh will leave the Stormers in a precarious position. With Fourie likely not returning, the Stormers brains trust would do well to offer former Sharks centre Adrian Jacobs a contract.
Jacobs’s contract at the Sharks was recently not renewed and he has since returned to the Cape – from where he hails – and has expressed his interest to play for the Stormers.
Another option at centre is JP Du Plessis, who played for the Western Province Under-21 side this past season. Du Plessis plays at outside centre and was part of the Melbourne Rebels’ Super Rugby group last season.

There you have it!
And suddenly there is room for Adi Jacobs.
Tim Whitehead may still be kicking himself.
BRYCE – could that JP du Plessis be the son
of Willie du Plessis, Springbok and brother
of Carel and Malles?
I know Willie is in OZ and has a son playing.

Hulle het seker gedink hulle kan Mossie

laat gaan.
Toe nie.

That is a HUGE loss for the Stormers… he was the reason (alongside Nienaber) they had the best defence in the tournament this past season…
That type of money is too good to pass up nobody even gets near that in Aus let alone France even with national tests?
Sucks really from a fan perspective if true… but thems the breaks… that’s life changing for a player and his family…

No mate… Willie’s son Willie Jr (haha) is playing in Sydney… 96kg wing and one of the quickest in the comp…
JP just couldn’t seem to make that step-up for the Rebels B into the squad before being released (too many centres atm)… but boy he’s come back a far stronger player with their conditioning regime (as well as at the league team he played for)… he’s a solid, strong boytjie…

Still dont think Mossie is such a great centre compared to the top players like Nonu or Smith.
So Adi it is.
