2012 Super 15 snippets

The teams are not really releasing anything spectacular so after scrounging the net we’ve found at least some snippets to start off as a whiff of an appetizer for 2012 Super Rugby.

South Africa news

The biggest news we have at home is that half of the refereeing panel will be ours.  That is five out of ten of the merit panel will be from here. Given the quality produced by the other two SANZAR partners, namely Bryce Lawrence and Chris Pollock, one can understand why those two nations have to scrape the bottom of the barrel and rely on our refs to do the job. In fact there are only two Aussies on the panel with the retirement of Stuart Dickenson… and one of those is a Kiwi… Steve Walsh.

The Sharks’ website is still filled with Christmas decorations… so nothiung happening there yet… the poor Valies haven’t gone home so they’re still getting beat down by the dismal Sharks performance in the Currie Cup final. MIke Greenaway has still not recovered from the denial psychosis that set in after the game.

The Lions’ site says “closed till 9 January 2012″… one can understand why… the Valies are all walking about with their 2011 CC champion shirts enjoying a beautiful summer…

The Cheetahs say “…dankie vir ‘n lekker jaar… ons is is almal by die see tot net voor die skole begin… dan sal die hele Bloemfontein heropen”

The Bulls just advertise season tickets… oh and apparently Roussouw De Klerk will miss the first few games of Super Rugby due to injury.

The Stormers completed “Phase 1” conditioning on 20 December 2011. Players were given specific conditioning exercises to follow over Christmas and will be retested on 9 January 2012.

Kiwi news

Closed for news till World Cup hangover and pants peeing happiness at living down “choker” tag wears off somewhere round when the team chokes in 2015…

The biggest news these snotheads can come up with is that there is a twitter discussion between Quade Cooper and Jerome Kaino over Christmas… other than that… the chiefs have collected some new loose forwards to contract, and Taranaki flyhalf Beauden Barret has been called into the Chiefs side. Other than that they are not really busy with anything.

Aussie news

Strewth mate…

With three teams in the lower third of the table in 2011, these guys can only be praying for a better 2012…

Anyways their news is that the Brumbies have lost their Chinese sponsor… but not just the Brumbies… apparently the league team Canberra Raiders ALSO lost the same sponsor… ah so dishonourble oriental gentlemen break deal… so solly…

But with a bunch of noname youngsters coached by Laurie Fischer, Jake White and Stephen Larkham one gets the feeling the Brumbies are where the Lions are at the moment…

On the plus side 20 000 2011 Reds members have signed up for 2012 already and rugby participation in the sport is up by 33% in this season with 130 000 people now playing!

Looks like news will restart on Monday…
