The Golden Lions Rugby Union announced the MTN Lions team to play in their second match of the 2012 Vodacom Super Rugby competition against the Hurricanes on Friday, 2 March 2012 at a press conference this afternoon.

Following their 27 – 25 victory over the Toyota Cheetahs this past weekend, the coaching staff and team has learnt many lessons and are spending the week correcting things they were not 100% happy with in the Cheetahs match.

The coaches have made three changes to the starting line up – Michael Killian replaces James Kamana following a knock to the head during the Cheetahs match and Stephan Greeff will make his debut for the MTN Lions to replace Wikus van Heerden who has been ruled out or three weeks due to a concussion. In a tactical change, Cobus Grobbelaar has been moved to the bench while Warren Whiteley will start at Number 8, Joshua Strauss at Right Flanker and Derick Minnie at Left Flanker.

Wicus is crucial and our lineouts sucked against the Stormers and Cheetahs.

I agree with Bryce… but is Butch an 80 minute player these days?

Still think we could do with a GOOD lock and a GOOD scrumhalf.

By good I mean we need a jumper like say a Hannes Strydom type and a scrumhalf we need a guy who can pass fast and crisp… we should have tried to get Sarel Pretorius…

Anyway, I had a brilliant interview with Lions conditioning and strength head Wayne Taylor today.

Will publish once work allows but for now I’m a bit snowed in.

Who knows… they’re not playing either for 80mins… rather start him all the same…

As for your lock situation… Greef is the new breed… time to see how he and Ruan do at this level…

Disagree stays with Hollenbach …him and Doppies have a great understanding of each other ..

I thought Hollenbach had a quiet game on Sat and as it turns out I read that he had lost his Grandmother before the game …so good on him for playing.

He gives a 100% on the field.

This is a good side and if we click and rattle the Canes we can win big I reckon.

Bit one dimensional and think Butch is a better organizer and distributor.

Taylor says all players are conditioned to play 80 minutes.

    CSB

Also reckons the Lions were one big game away from clicking and shaking ring rustiness and reckons the Neo Africa cancelation hurt Lions preparations.

This weekend we see the REAL machine.
