Goosen benched for Cheetahs

Super Rugby’s top point scorer, Johan Goosen, will start from the bench this weekend when the Cheetahs host the Chiefs.

Goosen who struggled with a shoulder niggle he sustained from a high tackle will not be risked in a starting capacity for the match but this might as well be seen as the youngster being given a bit of a rest too.

Sias Ebersohn will start at flyhalf in a team which also sees a change in the loose-forwards where Justin Downey will start his second game at the expense of Ashley Johnson who shifts to the bench.

Cheetahs team:

1 Coenie Oosthuizen
2 Adriaan Strauss ( c )
3 WP Nel
4 George Earle
5 Izak van der Westhuizen
6 Heinrich Brüssow
7 Justin Downey
8 Philip van der Walt
9 Piet van Zyl
10 Sias Ebersohn
11 Willie le Roux
12 Andries Strauss (vc)
13 Robert Ebersohn
14 Ryno Benjamin
15 Hennie Daniller
16 Hercu Liebenberg
17 Trevor Nyakane
18 Andries Ferreira
19 Ashley Johnson
20 Tewis de Bruyn
21 Johan Goosen
22 Philip Snyman

Sias must be bursting out of his skin waiting for this opportunity

I hope they do it against the Chiefs!

I think this is a good thing.

These Ebersohn kids work their arses off and ask for no favours. Sias would no doubt want to grab this opportunity.

I am as always just worried over nr 9 for cheetahs. Van Zyl must just stay fit and we will be fine.

The 2 Cheetah locks and this Downey kid are real no-name brands. Still waiting for Labuschagne to return as I reckoned he and Brussouw and hittebron can be a very very good trio

English club London Wasps have signed Cheetahs and Springbok loose forward Ashley Johnson for the next European season.

    Personally I won’t miss him.

    Agreed.
Hey Ash – don’t let the door hit you (or your Reggae hair) in the ass on the way out.

Johnson hasn’t played as much so it must have been in the works. He had some screamers last year. Ebersohn is good but saw him manily last year when teamed with the Super Pretorious so that’s not completely fair.
I think one of the posters here may secretly be Naka Drotske – maybe even Orang Orakel – so Drotske it you’re viewing this…figure out ways to get it to Messerschmit Willie early and often. You’re welcome and no it’s not free – I’ll bill ya post-triumph.
    :D

I see Messerschmitt played Boland last year,
emigrated to Griquas in the hope to get maybe
    one or two SS15 games.
Got pulled into the Cheetah squad very soon.

Not Oranje Orakel – I’ve met him.
Not Shields (Year of the Cheetah) either.
Naka can’t write so much shit.

On channel 231 the broadcast some old WC games currently. Earlier this week they did the Jannie de Beer drop fest (1999 WC qF against England).

This Goosen kid is a MUST for the Bok team. He has the confidence and the skills. Don’t make him wait.

But I think he will have to wait and Steyn will be the flyhalf for Meyer out of the gate – hope not but I think Meyer will go with the “watching paint dry ” option to start out.

    See Cosa at #11.

A year or two ago a blogger said he has
the full Springbok Saga (or the updated
series?) but I cannot remember who it was.
    Is he still with us?
I never go around to ordering it, would
    still like to.
