As hy só aanhou speel, gaan hy nog diep spore in Bok-rugby trap.”
Hendro Scholtz vervang hom.
Die Cheetahs-span is:
Hennie Daniller, Nico Scheepers, Robert Ebersohn, Andries Strauss, Raymond Rhule, Sias Ebersohn, Sarel Pretorius, Philip van der Walt, Francois Uys, Hendro Scholtz, Izak van der Westhuizen, Carl Wegner, Coenie Oosthuizen, Adriaan Strauss (k), Marcel van der Merwe.
PLAASVERVANGERS: Hercu Liebenberg, Ross Geldenhuys, Waltie Vermeulen, Davon Raubenheimer, Tewis de Bruyn, Philip Snyman, Rayno Benjamin.

Good player but in a retarded game plan even Habadonna is a passenger.
As we know its not the quality of our players but the system and game plan that could have worked 10 years ago.
So put whoever you want in the team but if the culture and intent is not there then play 7 loose fowards in the backline.

He is no less experienced than Habana when he made his debut, and he has similar potential. Like Habana he is converted outside centre.
Not to convinced about his basic wing skillset yet. Highball and kicking skills could still do with a year or 2 of experience.
A great prospect though.
Read somewhere he is fom Ghana.

Habana and Peterson have to be our wings for the foreseeable future. Ruhle can get into the mix with an eye on the future, but it would probably serve him better to spend his time playing rugby instead of carrying and holding tackle bags for the Boks.

Nee fok man.
October 10th, 2012 at 9:19 am

Reply to biltongbek @ 9:28 am:
“kultuur verander” – nou is jy 100% reg.

October 10th, 2012 at 12:12 pm

October 10th, 2012 at 12:33 pm
For tour i’d want to see:
Ruan, Morne
Basson Fransie JPP habana
Lambie
as starting backline VS IRE and England
with bench of Hougaard, Janties and Taute
October 10th, 2012 at 12:33 pm
Ek is lui, so ek kopie dit sommer net so in engels vanaf n’ ander site.
As far as our backline is concerned, there are a few options. I would have said keep JP Pietersen at 14, but he has done really well at 13, there are a lot of people back home believing Raymond Rhule although only 19 should be called up to the bok squad. He has been tearing the Currie Cup teams a new one n most games, scored 8 scintilating tries so far in 9 games.
So the big question is who would be best at 12, 13, and 15?
You could have Frans at 12 and JP Pietersen at 13 with Lambie at 15
or you could have Lambie at 12, JP at 13 and Frans at 15.
I guess it depends whether you want a midfield that has a big powerful 12 and a playmaker at 15 or the other way round.
Taute has played 15 and 13 as well, so once again it opens up other possiblities, I see him perhaps the more balanced player of the three, He isn’t as big as Frans but powerful, he has the same big boot as frans, but more of a playmaker as Lambie.
So when you start looking at midfield and fullback, for now I would think it is between, Lambie, Frans, Taute and JP.
Unless you keep JP at 14 and then do Frans at 12, Taute at 13 and LAmbie at 15, or Lambie at 12, Taute at 13, and Frans at 15.
But then there are the two JWC centers in Paul Jordaan who has done really well for the Sharks at 13 and 14, and also Jan Serfontein the player of the tournament in the JWC, but then he hasn’t shone in the CC.
Sorry this must seem confusing and indecisive, but those players must be tested and see which are the best combinations.
Then at wing you could have Habana, Hougaard (still not sure his best position), Rhule, Jordaan and don’t forget Willie le Roux, he has done wonders at 15 for the Griquas in the currie cup and played very well for the Cheetahs in the Super 15.
Meyer has his work cut out for him to decide which players will be best suited for which position, we haven’t had so many versatile players for a long time.
our biggest concern should be half back, I honestly don’t know who is best.
If you look at a future Bok backline there are a number of players who could play a few positions and then the halfbacks need to be sorted.
Sarel Pretorius – halfback (not sure he controls the game well though)
Charl Mcleod – halfback (I like him, but it seems few rate him in SA)
Michael Bondision – (he made a very good partnership with Jantjies for the Lions)
Johan Goosen – Flyhalf ( still needs experience)
Elton Jantjies – Flyhalf ( very good distributor)
Lambie – Flyhalf, Centre, Fullback – (where does he have the most influence)
JP Pietersen – Centre, wing (he will be good anywhere)
Frans Steyn – Centre, Fullback – ( solid at the back, strong in midfield)
Jan Serfontein – Centre (still need to convince though)
Paul Jordaan – Centre, wing (good in both positions)
Bryan Habana – Wing (he seems to do well either side)
Raymond Rhule – wing (strong, fast, good finisher)
Jaco Taute – Centre, fullback (not sure where he can be best utilised)
Willie le Roux – Fullback, wing (for Griquas he is often used as first reciever)
Francois Hougaard – Wing, Halfback (don’t know where he would be best, perhaps as an impact player)

I think Rhule is talented and he had a decent innings on Saturday – however, having said that, I have a feeling if someone does not take him under their wing, he’s gonna be wasted talent.
I found him nudging in the direction of Glory Boy…he is stingy with the ball and he gives the perception that he wants to do all on his own…to get the glory off course. let’s hope I am wrong – but I seldom are with these things..

Strangely enough that is not how I experience it.
At least since isolation the Boks has always been much
better as a team than the sum of its parts. The have never
really dominated world teams, and for me from the last
generation only Fourie du Preez and Victor Matfield can be
called so-called Wunderkinders.
I think a lot of Sprinbok supporters realise this.
For me it is more the exeption than the rule.
The single cases(top of mind) that were expected to become saviours, and failed to live up to the tag:
Derrick Hougaard 2003(I think he was discarded way too early, could have been a great asset)
Pierre Spies(Showed glimpses of his potential through the years and truly has wunderkind
potential. Doesn’t look at this stage if he ill ever be more than just another adequate Bok nr 8.
Joe van Niekerk(Had a very good few years with the Boks, but lost form and disappeared to Europe)
Schalk Brits(In England he is seen as an wunderkind, would probably not have had the same success with the Boks more structured approach)
There is a lot of players being talked up and overhyped, this is common among supporters in al sports. But the savior tag can only be applied to very few of them.

There are a constant stream of posts on these blogs about moving forward towards the next generation. How current players or coaches are part of the failed present and only there because of past glories, how we should look towards the future by bringing in the youngsters who are not yet corrupted by the staid conservative culture of the past or the present. Comments along these lines have been posted in the last few days as well as the last few years. The glorious future is always just around the corner and will be reached as soon as we get rid of the current useless bunch.
The same current useless bunch that was the solution to our problems just a year or two ago.

Had a good chuckle when the Re-Union boys mentioned how the Bok players rather run into the opposition instead of running into space. Brosnihan reckoned SA players always seek out the tackle bags or trees at training so that they can run into it. Funny, but so true.
