Burger confirmed as Stormers captain

A fit again Schalk Burger will once again lead the Stormers for the 2013 Super Rugby campaign.

Burger who missed the entire season last year through injury in the first game against the Hurricanes will lead the Stormers while Springbok captain, Jean de Villiers assumes the role of vice-captain.

Speaking to the Stormers website, head coach Allister Coetzee had little hesitation in re-instating Burger.

“Now that he is fit, Schalk will resume the DHL Stormers captaincy in 2013.

“We are, however, blessed with an incredibly strong leadership base in every position. Schalk will have the Springbok captain in Jean de Villiers to lean on, an Absa Currie Cup-winning captain in Deon Fourie and I haven’t even mentioned the likes of Andries Bekker, Tiaan Liebenberg, Duane Vermeulen, Dewaldt Duvenage and Bryan Habana – all of whom are leaders in their positions.”

The Stormers are currently on a pre-season training camp in Hermanus and kick off their campaign against the Bulls in Pretoria.

It is great to have the legend back!

Not much difference between him and Jean de Villiers. Would have been happy with either.

    Ja well, no fine.
I didn’t miss him in the teams of the
    Stormers or the Boks. Overrated
    chrashballer hanging around with
    the backs half the time.
But not quite as useless as Spies, of
whom I read quite a damning article in
    SA Rugby.
