Sharks select strong team for opener

Despite a number of injuries the Sharks have been able to name a strong starting XV for their game against the Cheetahs.

Key injuries to Bismarck du Plessis, Keegan Daniel and Willem Alberts might have had some of their supporters concerned for the opening weekend’s Super Rugby action against the Cheetahs, but the Sharks have named a strong starting XV with no less than 8 capped Springboks and a further 4 on the bench.

Frans Steyn will captain the side from inside centre partnered by the exciting Paul Jordaan on his outside.  In the back three the Sharks have loads of firepower in the form of Mvovo, Pietersen and Ludik.  Pat Lambie takes ownership of the number 10 jersey with the impressive Cobus Reinach controlling matters between the forwards and the backs.

Boks Ryan Kankowski, Marcell Coetzee and the experienced Jacques Botes make up the loosies while Jannie and Beast will add extra weight and experience to the pack.  If anything, the Sharks might be a bit light at lock but Franco van der Merwe has been outstanding for the Lions last year.

With Boks Deysel, McCleod, Bosman and Ndungane on the bench, the Sharks will pose a massive challenge to the Cheetahs.  For those wondering, Butch James is apparently struggling with an injury.

Yeah that is a solid team, I was wondering whether Plumtree would play JP at 13 or Jordaan at 13
