Varsity Cup Results, Round 6

Just as you think you have seen it all Varsity Cup rugby brings a game like Tuks against Pukke last night.

by Jacques

Most properly one of the most entertaining games of rugga I saw in a long time. From the start of the game till the 81st min we saw end to end stuff from both teams. Surely we need to contact Khalid Galant from the anti-doping to test these guys for surely they cannot play like that for 81 min.

Tuks boosted their hopes of securing a home semi-final with a last minute try to take a dramatic win in Johannesburg. Tuks got off to a brilliant start when Pollard went over the advantage line to see Blommetjies dive over in the third minute of the game. UJ answered right back with a try of their own by Wessel du Randt. Tries just kept on coming and Tuks took the teams into half time with a lead 26-16.

The second just saw both teams hammering at each other and it were UJ that took down the lead of Tuks with two tries. With minutes to go UJ lead 29-26 and I am sure everyone thought UJ would cause an upset and win the game. Tuks however had other plans and score with 1 minute to go to take the score to a match winning 31-29. Brilliant Varsity rugby, and the reason why this competition will stay one of the most exciting tournaments around for years to come.

Must say although Maties is unbeaten I can not say I think they will win this, I think Tuks will take it again this year but maybe Maties will suprise if they go to the final it will be at home

shimlas just as kak. My alma mater (wits) not taking too much of a beating. I really hope Varsity Cup rugga could help them scout some bigger name players from outside Jozi
