Nice settled look. Hopefully few injuries this season.

Argentina coach Santiago Phelan has named a thirty man squad that will contest the Rugby Championship that includes Felipe Contepomi and Gonzalo Tiesi.

Contepomi captained Argentina in their two test series loss against England earlier this month.

Coach Phelan has added seven players from the June squad and two players from the young Argentina team who finished sixth at the Junior World Cup in France on the weekend.

Phelan has a mix of experience and youth and the senior players include back row forward Julio Farias Cabello and centre Gonzalo Tiesi, who captained Argentina in their 29-18 win over Georgia on Saturday.

The Pumas squad will fly to Pensacola, Florida USA for a fortnight of physical training at a specialist centre that they have used since 2007 when they finished third in the Rugby World Cup held in France.

The technical and tactical preparations step up from July the 15th and in August they will play two warm up matches against New South Wales Barbarians at undecided venues and dates.

It has allways been one of Argentina biggest problems, not being able to field their best side consistently. I would hope that they make a good showing this year in the rugby championship and stay in for the long run, as this will bring much needed exposure to their teams and might just make their national team more consistent.

The problem is the lack of a global season – lots of their players – or most of them rather – play in the NH. Untill we get a global season it will continue like this. That is why I would like to see a global club championship replacin the Super 15, Aviva Premiership, RaboDirect 12, French Top 14, Heineken Cup etc etc. That will be interesting!

    Cheers

    Not really.

    It’ll be like RWC… 1987 to 2012

    Northern Hemisphere winners = 1
Szouthern hemisphere winners = all of them except one
