Irish International full back this week answers some of our questions. The kid has been on fire for country and province and has for years been one of the most enterprising attacking players in world rugby:
Thanks for joining us on Ruggaworld – where we have long held the view that attacking players like you belong in Super Rugby – not in the drudge-fest you guys have up north. Yet all is not well with Super rugby – as is confirmed by declining stadium attendance this year.
What in your opinion is the coolest thing about Heineken Cup Rugby?
Playing against the best teams in Europe and the competition is the benchmark. At leinster we have had some consitent seasons and that’s our goal – to be in the hunt for European silverwear every season!
Would you ever consider playing Super rugby – even towards the end of your career?
Not that I wouldn’t consider playing out side of Ireland, but I guess I have not really thought about it. As a life experience and a journey, amazing, but Ireland is my home, my family, my friends, so it would be hard to move away from that, but never say never!
What Super Rugby team in SA would you like to play for?
Depends who would have me? (RW note: Ahem, like..who would not?)
What do you think Super Rugby should do to get the punters back into the stadium?
Rugby is about entertainment, on an off the field. Its about fan experience, creating a culture and entertaining people, that’s what gets people to games!
Do you sometimes catch Richard Strauss and Quinn Roux speaking Afrikaans to one another?
Yes, and we cant understand a word, but they sometime try to teach us a bit!
What is more scary – Getting stuck in-between a Temple Bar hen’s night or running into Bakkies Botha?
Temple Bar any day, But the human wall of Bakkies is a close 2nd!
Thanks for your time Rob. We really appreciate it!
