Heyneke Meyer is still worried about the breakdowns, and we may see changes in the starting lineup.
Extracted from a piece by Jacques vd Westhuizen, Weekend Argus.
“You can talk the guys up and motivate them, but it’s not only about being physical. You need to be clinical in that area and that’s what we’re trying to achieve.”
Meyer says he is going to rotate certain forwards, so there might be changes. Bjorn Basson is still also struglling with an injury to his wrist, but there won’t be many changes.
Up front Flip van der Merwe could replace Juandre Kurger at No.5 to give the Boks a greater physical presence. while Willem Alberts could make way for tiehter siya Kolisi or Marcel Coetzee.
Amongst the backs Willie le Roux cold move to the wing, with either Zane Kirchner or Pat Lambie at 15.
Meyer is very happy with the scrums and the 100% record from kickoffs, though he may be hinting at a less enterprising game plan.
“What happened in Mendoza definitely made the players mentally stronger. These away games are not always won by playing the best rugby – it will always be an arm-wrestle. To win, you need 100% returns in the set pieces, your defence must be good and you must absorb the pressure. And you need a goal kicker with a 90% record.”
