Who is to go? Who will replace them? Heyneke Meyer must be a busy man before the End of Year Tour.
Let me open the debate with some thoughts of my own:
Did we see the last of Kirchner? Will Lambie get his real chance at last?
HM has lamented the absence of quality locks before. Does this mean the end of the road for Kruger, with Flip vd Merwe surviving because there is no one else whilst P-S du Toit is being grown? Will Etzebeth become the No.5 then? And what is to happen with Franco vd Merwe, aged 30?
Props: How long can we cope with dr. Jannie’s weak defence? Gurthrö does not seem the prop he was, and Coenie is struggling at this level. Nic Mallett seems to be putting his faith in Frans Malherbe, the WP prop only now returning from injury. Is he special? BJ Botha?
Loosies: Personally I can’t see Alberts really contributing, especially not if the Boks are heading for a more expansive style. Vleis Engebrecht of the Bulls? Lappies Labuschagne? When will Arno Botha be fit? Have we seen the last of Marcell Coetzee? Then there is also Pierre Spies?
Scrumhalves: Does anyone know if Du Preez is available? Does Pienaar deserve more opportunities, or should Janno Vermaak get the nod? What happened to Piet van Zyl?
Flyhalf: Apart from Lambie (already doubling up at 15) who else is there? Pollard is not convincing me, neither does Jantjies. What happened to Goosen?
Centres: Is JJ Engelbrecht really making the grade? Does HM keep on investing in him, or is Serfontein a better call? Juan de Jongh’s slumping form seems to continue, and Ebersohn’s candle has been snuffed.
Wings: Habana and Le Roux. Is Habana available for the EOYT? And JP Petersen? Bjorn Basson seems out of the reckoning, or does he?
I’m hoping for you guys to help put us all into the picture with your collective knowledge and opinions.
HM will have to make tough calls, as there are no midweek games on the cards. He does not want to lose a test, yet he must be thinking ahead to next years Rugby Championship.
