Springbok back Frans Steyn will make a return to the Sharks’ starting XV for the Currie Cup semi-final against the Free State Cheetahs on Saturday, the Durban rugby union announced on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old has not tasted any competitive action since early May when he sustained a leg injury against the Highlanders in Super Rugby.
He has since had surgery and will return to the starting fold for the Kings Park clash ahead of Heimar Williams in midfield.
“Frans Steyn is going to start,” coach Brad Macleod-Henderson said on Tuesday.
“He’s a player of exceptional quality and it’s easy to bring a player like him straight into the starting line-up. He’s raring to go and has been looking good in training.”
Patrick Lambie will start at flyhalf after playing off the bench in the final regular-season match against Western Province at the weekend, a clash the Sharks lost 17-13 to end second on the log.
However, Willem Alberts has again been ruled out due to a neck injury he suffered against New Zealand in the Rugby Championship.
