Ludeke happy with Bulls fitness

The Bulls have completed their first week of training in 2014 with a virtually injury-free squad to pick from, the Beeld website reports.

Players like Pierre Spies, Arno Botha, Francois Hougaard and Deon Stegmann took full part in training on Thursday as the Bulls concluded their first week back.

The squad travels to Sun City on Friday where players, wives and girlfriends will get to know each other a little better.

They’ll be back at Loftus Versfeld next week where serious training will commence.

“Our first week of training was great,” said coach Frans Ludeke. November (pre-season training) was very good and I was satisfied with December.

“Regarding January, it’s important to have all the injured guys back.

“Everyone was ready when we arrived here this week and came through the week successfully.

“The focus was on the basics and to get the details right, even tough you make a few tweaks during pre-season.”

  1. Looking at this squad, we look good at hooker, loose forward, scrumhalf and outside backs. 10 I have serious doubts about boths ability to rise to Super rugby level and the rest we have good enough first choice players, but just one injury and we are in trouble.

Here's hoping for a injury free super rugby season.

  2. With Matfield reported to return to the Bulls setup, we might just have enough cover at lock as well. It will depend on Matfield's form though, will he still be good enough?

  3. Matfield out for a few years, and will not be able to play full games, come back kids usually have too much to catch up on in the game and fail to make an impact, but let's hope for the Bulls he does make some kind off impact for them, even if it just to help the quality youngsters that need some help.
