Sharks confirm Stevens signing

The Sharks have confirmed the signing of former England international and current Saracens prop Matt Stevens, on a two-year deal on Tuesday.

Sport24 earlier reported that Stevens may have been lured to the Durban-based franchise in time for their Super Rugby campaign, but it has emerged that Durban-born Stevens will officially join the Sharks in August 2014, ahead of the start of the Currie Cup competition.

Confirming the signing, Sharks CEO, John Smit said: “Matt’s versatility on both sides of the scrum and his experience makes him a great acquisition to our squad. We look forward to welcoming him to The Sharks family.”

“Matt has a burning desire to be a part of our Currie Cup campaign and is a great signing for us,” added director of rugby, Jake White.

“With our front row being unavailable during the latter part of the year, due to Springbok commitments, Matt’s experience and knowledge will prove invaluable and the youngsters in our squad can take confidence from having a senior guy in the front row.”

  1. JT

In other news we will be playing our 14’th game of the season on Saturday – whilst hunting for our 14’th victory. If we win on Saturday – we are going up a division, with 4 games still left.

We have a points difference of 428. Good stuff.

    We had quite a few big victories – 92-0, 61-13, 51-3, 45-3, 45-5 etc.

We are playing against the team that is third – so they need to win if they want to go up as well – since only the first 2 teams will be going up.

    Hold thumbs.

  2. Damn good signing… however it’s too late… who cares about the CC… Sharks need to be Super contenders and JDP needs less game time for them and the Boks cause…
