Lions head coach Johan Ackermann has named his 23-man team to take on the Crusaders at Ellis Park on Saturday evening.

Ackermann has made just one forced change in the forwards and two changes in the backline for the encounter. In the forwards, Martin Muller comes in at lock for the injured Franco van der Merwe. Meanwhile, in the backline, Andries Coetzee will start at fullback with Lionel Mapoe coming into the starting XV at outside centre. As a result, Deon van Rensburg shifts to wing.

On the wood, Malcolm Marx is primed to make his Vodacom Super Rugby debut while Warwick Tecklenburg and Elton Jantjies are also two new inclusions for Saturday’s clash. The match will kick off at 17h05 and will be preceded by a club curtain-raiser between Raiders and Pirates.

The Team:

Andries Coetzee, Deon van Rensburg, Lionel Mapoe, Stefan Watermeyer, Courtnall Skosan, Marnitz Boshoff, Faf de Klerk, Warren Whiteley (c), Willie Britz, Jaco Kriel, Martin Muller, Franco Mostert, Julian Redelinghuys, Willie Wepener, Schalk van der Merwe

Pity I am out of towm this weekend. Would have loved to go to Elispark for this one. Not a bad team, Franco is out but Minnie is back witch evens it out a bit. Martin Muller is a solid backup.

Be a huge win for the Lions ala’ like the game the Cheetahs knocked them off due to Super Pretorious’ heroics few years back in “The Vatican of SA Rugby”…..Cheetah Field.

(Man that was a long time ago, Cheetahs still had that howitzer legged FB that the following season went to Sharks to wither, now I think he’s marooned to oblivion in Japan – so much so can’t even remember his name)
