Lions head coach Johan Ackermann has named Elton Jantjies to start at flyhalf against Super Rugby Champions the Chiefs in Hamilton with Marnitz Boshoff on the replacements bench.

Ackermann has made one change to the forward pack that lost to the Stormers before their bye a fortnight ago.

Warren Whiteley has made a full recovery from injury and will start at eighthman and will captain the side.

Meanwhile, in the backline, Faf de Klerk has reclaimed his spot in the starting XV. Elton Jantjies will start at flyhalf and Deon van Rensburg will return in the wing position, having recovered from his minor injury.

On the bench, Armand van der Merwe looks set to make his Vodacom Super Rugby debut should he get a run on Saturday.

Jacques van Rooyen will also provide cover off the wood, having been called up from the Vodacom Cup squad.

Due to De Klerk and Jantjies earning starting positions, Ross Cronje and Marnitz Boshoff are the other changes to the substitutions list.

The Lions are clearly just aiming at using Jantjes’ better distribution skills to run at the Chiefs… not aiming to score off this game…

Maybe we are adhering to the Minister as Stormers and Lions have put BEE players in place of of whites… :soek:

Ou Vettie has never been a “distributer” – just another myth. He does not have the basic skill of running and passing – always has to stop to pass. And a moronic kicking style as well…
