The Bulls have made one change to the team that beat the Cheetahs last week for this week’s match against the Stormers at Loftus Versfeld.

Bulls coach Frans Ludeke has promoted JJ Engelbrecht from the replacements bench to the starting line up and he takes over from William Small-Smith who drops down to the bench. Dean Greyling who was suffering with bronchitis earlier in the week has recovered and will play his 50th Super Rugby match after being named in the starting line up.

Victor Matfield retains the captaincy for another week as Flip van der Merwe is still on suspension but has also been struggling with a hamstring niggle. Piet van Zyl has not yet recovered from his knee injury so Francois Hougaard retains the scrumhalf jersey. Jurgen Visser (foot), Jacques du Plessis (hamstring), and Bjorn Basson (influenza) all missed training on Monday but have recovered and have been retained.

Matfield who will play in his 135th Super Rugby match said that they need to maintain the momentum they picked up in the second half of the match against the Cheetahs. “We kept our composure and stuck to our structures, something we will need to do again against the Stormers,” said “They have shown some decent form in the last couple of weeks and are playing without fear, which makes them dangerous opponents. ”

“As is the norm with local derbies, it will be a physical affair and the challenge for us will be to remain calm and not get sucked into the match they want us to play,” Matfield said.
