Former Sharks coaches Chris Boyd and John Plumtree will coach the Hurricanes in Super Rugby for the next two years, replacing Mark Hammett who is leaving after four years to take charge of the Cardiff Blues.

Boyd and Plumtree formed a coaching partnership at the Durban-based Sharks in 2009 and 2010. Plumtree coached the Sharks from 2008 to 2013 and is the current Ireland forwards coach

Boyd is currently coach of Wellington province, the largest provincial member of the Hurricanes’ franchise, while Plumtree was Wellington coach from 2001 to 2006.

Plumtree said he is “extremely excited about reconnecting with Chris and building on our coaching relationship alongside what is, and always has been, a very talented group of players.”

The Hurricanes are currently sixth on the Super Rugby table.

Good on Plumtree. He was shafted last year IMO. Cant help but wonder if White would’ve been any better than him with the injuries the Sharks had last year. It was simply a case of payback by John Smit when White was picked in Plum’s place.

One just has to look at the Stormers this year to see the influence injuries has on a team.
