RaboDirect Rebels rookie Sam Jeffries and Lopeti Timani will depart Melbourne today en route to Johannesburg, following the Rebels 34-17 defeat to the Lions at Ellis Park.

Jeffries and Timani will join the squad and will be available for selection against the Bulls in the Rebels final match of the 2014 Asteron Life Super Rugby season.

Both players have had limited opportunities throughout 2014 due to injury, however the forward pairing comprehensively completed this weeks training under Rehabilitation Coordinator Josh Bird and Head of Strength and Conditioning Zane Leonard.

Jeffries, who recently re-signed for two seasons with the Club, is yet to make his debut for the Rebels and will be eager to get a taste of Super Rugby before the 2015 off-season and the inaugural National Rugby Championships.

The versatile and robust Timani will give Tony McGahan options in the backrow, which will no doubt be a physical encounter for the young Rebels squad, as they continue to look for the maiden win abroad.

Lopeti, who also deputised in the second row during the Club’s pre-season, has had a frustrating year to date, having sustained two lengthy injuries playing in the Dewar Shield for Footscray.

However, the 23 year old has shown great resilience and perseverance during his term on the sidelines, making himself available for selection this Saturday morning in Pretoria at 3:10am AEST.

At this stage, no Rebels will return to Melbourne early to accommodate for Lopeti and Sam.
