The Blue Bulls have suffered a major blow before the start of the 2014 ABSA Currie Cup. Springbok speedster Bjorn Basson wll be on the side-lines for at least the next four weeks according to doctor Org Strauss.
Basson is suffering from an ankle injury. Basson holds the record for the most tries in a season when he was still playing for GWK Griquas.
Jacques du Plessis is expected to be back after four weeks for a broken jaw.
Hooker Callie Visagie will be rested for two weeks as he is battling with a back strain but should be fit for the first game.
Centres Dan Kriel, JJ Engelbrecht and Jessie Kriel will sit out for one week.

Pierre Spies (bicep, 4 months)
Arno Botha (knee, 4 months)
Frik Kirsten (neck, 4 months or retirement)
