Former Blitzbok Ryan Nell and fifteens Springboks Waylon Murray headlines the Vodacom Blue Bulls Sevens team to participate in the World Club Sevens series, to be played in Ireland and England in August. Nell will also captain the side, while Murray will be vice-captain.
A number of experienced sevens players have been included in the side, to be coached by David Manuel.
This include former Emerging Springbok Sevens sweeper Andre Warner, former SA Under-18 Commonwealth Youth Games gold medal winner Carel Swart, Springbok Sevens training squad member Nardus van der Walt and former SA Schools wing, Leroy Bitterhout.
The Blue Bulls played in the series last year as well and according to Manuel, will be looking for an improved performance this time around.
“We managed to assemble a very competitive squad and although we will be facing formidable opposition, I am confident that we will do well. We may lack real game time together, but all the guys have played sevens earlier in their careers and have slotted in nicely,” Manuel said.
The tournaments will be held at Thomond Park, Limerick on August 9 & 10th and Twickenham, London on August 16 &17.
Teams from Auckland, New York, Saracens, Waratahs, Vancouver Bears, DHL WP, Stade Francais, Daveta Fiji, San Francisco, Munster and Moscow Saracens will participate in Limerick. The Blue Bulls will play in pool A with Auckland, New York and Saracens.
