Western Province made it an easy win against the Blue Bulls at Newlands with a convincing win of 41-17.

It was a one sided affair from the start of the match with Western Province getting over the Blue Bulls line three times before the break.

The speed Western Province played just took the Blue Bulls out of the game and they had no answer to that. In the forwards Carr and Kolisi had big games which provide their backs enough ball to cause havoc for the Blue Bulls.

Yellow cards was raining down at Newlands as both teams lost two players during the match for negative and deliberate actions from the players.

After half time the Blue Bulls came out firing and close the gap from 19-6 to 19-12 with two penalties from Potgieter.

Western Province took the game again with a penalty and their bonus point try scored by Senatla who went over for his second try of the match. This took the game away from the Bulls as Western Province led 29-12.

The Bulls did get over the Western Province line eventually with Bongi Mbonambi from the lineout. Apart from the brilliant running game from Western Province was their defence. The Blue Bulls spend at times five to seven minutes on the Western Province line without getting through their defence.

Western Province goy over the Blue Bulls line two more times but the moment that had all supporters on their feet was in injury time when Kolbe tip toe through the Blue Bulls to offload a brilliant pass to De Jong who scored.

For the Blue Bulls it looks like this is going to be a long season if they do not get their game right. Visagie was awful for the Bulls and to see a Blue Bulls lineout struggle is not something anyone is used to.

The only time the Blue Bulls scrums showed any of their power was when Western Province was playing with 7 men because of yellow cards. Their attack was awful to say the least and defence was sometimes nowhere in this game.

Western Province build on their win from last week against the EP Kings and if they can improve each game they will be a team to look out for in this year’s ABSA Currie Cup.
