BC Q&A

Michael Cheika has cut down his squad to 31 players. The Wallabies had assembled as a 40 man squad but with a clash against the Springboks coming up the squad has been trimmed. While the players will remain in the group it sees some surprise omissions including Christian Leali’ifano and Wycliff Palu. Dave Dennis, Samu Kerevi, James Hanson, Tetera Faulkner, Toby Smith, Henry Speight and Nic White have been omitted.

Cheika did mention that it was tough making the calls and stressed that he was looking to manage the squad’s workload. Drew Mitchell and Matt Giteau have made the squad and you will likely see Rory Arnold and Taqele Naiyaravoro make their debuts against the Springboks.

The squad: Rory Arnold (Brumbies)*
Adam Ashley-Cooper (Waratahs)
Kurtley Beale (Waratahs)
Quade Cooper (Reds)
Scott Fardy (Brumbies)
Israel Folau (Waratahs)
Bernard Foley (Waratahs)

Matt Giteau (Toulon)
Scott Higginbotham (Rebels)
Greg Holmes (Reds)
Michael Hooper (Waratahs)

  1. I find the omission of Leali’ifano pretty strange considering his partnership with Kuridrani… and Palu must be injured…

Probably going to try one or two things against RSA and Argentina before the NZ and then the Bledisloe…

  2. I wonder if they will do what they did in their last test when they beat Wales… namely play a lock and two flanks off the bench again?

  3. Hoping they fire. Christian is cool, calm and composed . He may have missed a kick in front of poles but he is likely to go to the World Cup. Bryce you feel Kerevi would have given them something else? I mean we know all the others frankly.

  4. Looks like the BBC pick for World Cup Glory has like zero injuries.

If I were SARU I would be holding judiciary proceedings on the horror show that is Springbok health prior to World Cup.

I would mete out stiff sentences for physios and some coaches. For the worst offenders? I would make them hyphenate their last name for a year.
THAT would have a deterrent effect for future tourneys.

  5. @BC:

Kerevi is still a bit green presumably brought in for exposure… the Aussies also prefer a kicking/play-making 12… Giteau/Toomua/Beale/Christian in no particular order…

    @Americano:

    Bwahaha!

I think if you & Bunny’s dream becomes a reality it will be due to the Australian inclusion of one guy.
    That guy is….
    Matt Giteau
