Preview Currie Cup Semi – WP v Golden Lions

The second semifinal will be as excited as the first when Province host the Golden Lions at Newlands on Saturday afternoon.

This is going to be a battle within a battle but again as with the Sharks v Blue Bulls game, it will be decided by the pack of forwards.

Both teams have had a good year upfront but we also see some Springboks returning to the front rows that will make this battle even more special for those who love the dark-art of rugby.

Ruan Dreyer have come under heavy pressure due to the penalties he has been give away in the scrums both in Super Rugby and for the Springboks. He will be out there to prove himself and it will be no easy task.

The Lions front row with Dreyer, Marx and Van Rooyen will face-off against JC Janse van Rensburg, Bongi and Wilco Louw.

We can expect a huge battle upfront in the scrums and lineouts.

But the magic we expect from the backs.

Both teams have brilliant players who love to run with the ball and create space. Between the two sides we have no less than 6 internationals with most of them coming from the Lions.

The Lions have last week shown that with their star players back in the team that they did not lose any of their attacking skills from Super Rugby.

This game will be a close affair and the winner will be the one that makes the less mistakes as both teams have the ability to use mistakes of the other team to attack and score tries.

Province coach have decided to pick Leyds at fullback and keep Du Preez at the number 10 jumper with the exciting Willemse that will play of the bench.

Hang on to your heads as these two semifinals will be crackers.

Predictions: My head keeps saying that the Lions will have to much for Province but on the day Province can demolish any team. I will go with Lions with 5 points.

  1. Ruan Dreyer will be properly tested by JC Janse van Rensburg, if he can come through that with his head held high, it will be good for his confidence going forward.
