Excitement is building once again as The SA Rugby Legends (SARLA) prepare to welcome a talented group of U16 rugby players from Monaco as part of theSA-Monaco Rugby Exchange programme, which is run in association with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation.
In 2017, Durban played host to Monaco’s U15 Rugby Team as part of this ground-breaking initiative which aims to change lives through positive participation in sport.
The programme is ongoing, providing young players with an opportunity to play in international tournaments in addition to introducing them to new countries and cultures. 2018 will play witness to Cape Town as the country’s proud host and the tour will coincide with the final match of the Springboks Three-Match Test Series against England, on Saturday 23 June, which will truly add to the experience of the tour and seeing international rugby at this level.
The Monaco U16 Rugby Team will also join our Vuka players from the Atlantis Region for a specialised training clinic with the England Rugby Team at the Masi Rugby Club, held in association with English Rugby Legend, Jason Leonard’s, Atlas Foundation.
Further, they will receive coaching clinics from our very own SA Rugby legends in addition to visiting English women’s rugby World Cup and IRPA special award winner, Rachael Burford. Burford is being brought out by SARLA for coaching sessions with the girls who currently participate in the Vuka Rugby programme as well as some of the senior ladies playing rugby for their respective clubs in and around Cape Town.
On Saturday 23 June, the Monaco team will also play in a specially organised rugby tournament against other Vuka teams at City Park Stadium in Athlone, before experiencing the great test match at Newlands.

It will be England’s first visit to South Africa in six years, adding to the exhilaration of attending the match at DHL Newlands Rugby Stadium on Saturday, 23 June.
This Third Test will act as the wrap-up to a busy week of rugby training and games in addition to an exciting programme of the Cape’s tourist and cultural attractions.
