The Reds upset the apple-cart for the Rebels when they came out winners on Friday beating them 37-23.
The Rebels are fighting for a spot in the playoffs and it has been made just that much harder now with the lost against the Reds.
The Sharks have now the opportunity to pass the Rebels this weekend if they win against the Stormers in Cape Town.
This will make the life so much easier for the Sharks and the Jaguares to secure playoff spots.
The Rebels will have to beat the Highlanders next week in New Zealand now to make sure they make the playoffs and hope the Sharks falls against the Stormers.
The Reds outscored the Rebels with tries from Izack Rodda, Filipo Daugunu, Jono Lance as well as a penalty try with the Rebels only scoring through Angus Cottrell and Jack Maddocks.
The Rebels had the better start but the Reds defence was too good on the day as they could not get through their defensive line.
The Rebels did open the scoring with a penalty to take the lead 3-0.

After 26 min the Reds were leading 10-3 but the Rebels hit back with a try from Cottrell.
The Rebels got another one and took the lead to 17-10 after 33 minutes.
The Reds were able to get one back before halftime when Rodda scored for them
The Rebels then lost Faulkner to the sin-bin and conceded a try
The prop having been warned by referee Williams that another indiscretion at scrum-time would result in a yellow card.
The Reds went into the break with a 24-17 lead.
The Rebels again made a good start for the second half and reduce the lead to just four points.
Hodge slotted over another penalty to make it only a one point game.
The Reds lost a player to the bin whne Paia’aua was yellow carded for offside but they did not conceded a point in that 10 minutes.
The extended the lead to 27-23 with nine minutes to go.
Petaia then put the game to bed with a great try for the lead of 34-23.
They got a late penalty to make the final score 37-23.
